They don't wish to offend anyone by answering what they really think. Some times the full question wasn't on the main page. But in the details, once one opens the question. It's something one would have rather not have to answer. And because since one is already there why let the 2 points go to waste. By not answering at all. As not to get a notice if you were to leave it blank you just answer anything...except what you really think.

Actually, a lot of people have been doing it to hold their place. It is called squatting and is against the community guidelines. What they are doing is hoping that someone knows the answer and they copy what the other person has written in the hope that no one is the wiser. What they have to remember is that the ORIGINAL answer is in the Questioner's inbox. The 'revised' edition is one that others see.

Technically they aren't supposed to and you can report answers like that because it violates community guidelines. It comes under the category of 'Cheating'

"Our points system is meant to reward community members for sharing questions and answers...
Posting filler answers to a question in an effort to be first to answer, or copying and pasting other members’ answers, are also forms of cheating.

If a person does that they could be reported for NOT ANSWERING THE QUESTION because leaving comments like 'no comment' or 'edit' is POINT GAMING and that is against the guidelines.

Some people don't have a direct answer or they think they might insult you in someway or possibly affend someone else, but there are a few hundred reason's why they might put 'no comment' for an answer.

I understand how you feel, if I don't have anything to say, I just move to another question!! They are probably just going for the 2 points!

well now if u walk up to someone and ask a question, don't u expect a response even if it is "I don't know" I mean we can't know the answers to every question but once we open it up, I think we are entitled to tell you that we din't know or even care for that matter and I don't think people should b so rude or hurt,if u will, to report someone for saying that they don't know the answer. After all isn't this suppose to just b fun.

Some people just want the points. Or they are shocked beyond belief by the question.

They just do it to get the points which is not right in my opinion. If you can't answer the question move on to another one.
