I doubt that most of the young republicans here who support the war in iraq have been in iraq.

If you are a republican who supports the war, I would like you to answer this question telling me if you have been to iraq or not.

Liberal Dem here...

I have met 4 guys who have enlisted and have asked them about their politics.

1 is very much a devout republican from a big republican family.
2 have no idea of what their politics are and just want the education they were promised by the military.
1 does not know if he is a democrat or a republican but he "totally hates terrorists and can't wait to finish basic so he can go kick some as$..."

None of the four have ever voted in a Presidential election because they are too young.

On a personal note - I have heard from friends who were in the service (but not in Iraq) that you can't really be a liberal in the military anyway... they don't tolerate it. Just look at the things like "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" that keep soldiers from identifying their personal beliefs...
There is a strong wall of silence among liberals in the military that is enforced by a conservative political agenda.

Easy Game, being a conservative is a fantastic thing. We built America. We are the ones who contribute to America's greatness. We make up most of the military, pay most of the taxes, work the hardest, understand human nature, understand the world situation and how we fit into it. We are the backbone of America and are proud to be so. I gave 20 years of my life to the military, but I have not been to Iraq. I served in the jungles of the Philippines and SE Asia, as well as in Europe during the cold war and terrorist attacks. Now, let's hear your story. What have you contributed to your country?

I am a republican, I don't support Bush or his war, I did not serve in Iraq, but I did serve in the Army many years ago. There is not a cat in hells chance of me voting for someone like Hilllary Clinton, or Obama, or any other democrat, but I can't stand Bush either, can't wait for him to be out of office, but I am not sure yet who I will vote for certainly not McCain or Guilianne, I am hoping Thompson can shine, wow we republicans need help.We need to be rescued from the thought of a traitorous democrat winning the presidency.

1.in the 2000 election 70% of us soldiers considered themselves to be Republican.

2. In Iraq today, 57% of our soldiers consider themselves to be Republican whereas only 13% claim to be democrats.

I am just wondering, given these statistics, how can you say that although there are over 1 million republicans in the armed forces today, young republicans don't join the military?

not a republican, and only support the war as much as i would support a war like WW2 or the civil war - that is to say only with the funding and control of the us military and not by politics.
here is why i am answering your question - lincoln did not fight with the army of the republic, roosevelt did not land at normandy, nixon never flew a b-52 over hanoi. in fact the only president to ride into combat was washington.
it is not required that you fight to prove your support.

it is required that you be willing to fight to defend your rights.

I have been in since 1995. Been deployed 5 times and yes, I have been to Iraq.

I don't see as many from your side of the fence out here, even back when your side had the presidency and we were doing back to back rotations to Bosnia, Kosovo, and Macedonia. We had recruiting shortfalls and retention problems back then, but I didn't see surges of the left joining.

Fact is, 300,000,000 (left or right) people in this country, 1.2 million in the military. Most of us are conservative (not all, but most about a 70/30 split).

In fact, a lot of today's military (myself included) are 2nd or 3rd generation military, so its not just one side that is serving, its the same families.

So pointing out just Republicans is just a propaganda point you are trying to make. Your side is just as hypocritical as you claim the Republicans are.

Thank you for posting this question.
Intruder, thank you and anyone else here who is serving or has served.
You are appreciated.
This question has shown how childish and narrow minded the Liberal Left is.
We have a completely volunteer force.
This question implies that we are SENDING LIBERALS TO DIE... doesn't it?
Were you drafted? Were any of your Liberal friends?
Nice try at propaganda but it's easily dismantled.
Please... if you don't want to support the troops... be honest about it, with us and yourself. You'll feel better in the morning.

So, you have to have gone to war to support a war. That's pretty narrow thinking. Thank God people didn't think that way in WWII.
Besides, I've heard libs on here say that MOST of the troops are cons Christians.

They like to say that most of the enlisted soldiers are Republicans...but honestly, how many of those kids who enlisted know a flip about politics?
