I plan on starting a family when I get out of Graduate School. I live in the deep South. I am thinking about moving to California when I graduate to raise a family. I want to raise children with liberal and progressive views on things in life but with the conservative christian beliefs I learned as a child in the south. But I don't want my child to have the conservative, thinking inside of a box, closed minded beliefs we have in the south.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. Liberal and progressive views AND conservative Christian beliefs? You may want to be more specific.

But I would definitely suggest that you don't send them to public schools. Choose a private school, or better yet, homeschool.

You are going to have your hands full. Liberalism and Christianity are fine together. They go well if you keep an open mind on both fronts.

California is inundated with Liberal ideas and society is full of liberalism. Conservative Christian ideas don't often fit well with those.

Suggestion: In your Christianity, read your Bible and take it for what it is often thought of ..... a book of good lessons on God's teachings. The Bible may not be a literal set of stories and historical happenings as much as it may be a set of strong stories with good morals and values. Jesus used parables to teach people ...... God used them in the Old Testament too.

Think about it.
