I left school when i was 16 with no gcses (due to leaveing early to be a carer). I then went to college but then quit as i hated the course as i didnt have the grades to do what i wanted.so i went back to being a carer. so i could find out what i wanted to do. I am 18 now and i know that i want to be a travel agent but i cant get my foot in the door as nobody will give someone with no experience and qualifications the chance. i dont want to go back to college. HELP?

You have to get a degree in travel planning, you can them through correspondence school, then you can get a job at any travel agency.

it is so sad to read that you had to leave school early to be a carer, and there are loads more like you, you are a great person for giving up your precious time to help someone, it is very unfair when you think about it that you can not get a job because of no experience, how do you get experience with out be let have the job. you could end up being far better than those with the qualifications, and probably more pleasant to deal with. i wish you the best of luck honey, and hope you get what you want from YOUR life.. lol xxxx

There's little chance your going to get anywhere without going back to college I'm afraid. Perhaps you could do an apprenticeship?

That's what I'm doing and I love it. You only have to attend college one day a week, and the rest of the time your working at your placement. Most colleges offer them, so why not find out?

One way of showing interest is speaking with a travel agent manager and ask for voluntary work experience as it is an ambition of yours.

As time goes on and be patient, you will learn the lay of the land and as long as you show enthusiasm, you would become a preffered choice should a vacancy arise.

PS. Do a bit of research into the Travel Agent you would approach as this shows the manager genuine interest.

Write to all the local travel agencies in your town. They'll know better than anyone else. You never know, they might offer you a training opportunity if you sell yourself.
