I had picked out the name Ava months ago, but have in these final days totally changed my mind, due to the fact that it's becoming SO so popular. Someone suggested Teagan which I love! However, I prefer the pronounciation "Tay-gan" over "Tea-gan". What alternate spelling (aside from Taygan) would make this pronounciation clear. Also! If you have a middle name to suggest that'd be so helpful!

Sorry, i forgot to add...

I wasnt asking for you to knock the name (and lets be sensitive here folks, youre critizing the name of a child who is still in the womb of a 10 month pregnant woman, have a heart would ya?!)

I've picked the name, and i love it! I was just looking for alternate spellings, and a middle name. Ouch...some people are really harsh!

Hi Courtney,

congrats and I hope you deliver on your due date....

I don't know if you could get people to pronounce it just by changing the spelling. If you give her the nickname "Tay" people will figure it out, I think.

Teagan Renee
Teagan Marie
both of these sound pretty good.

My dad said the best way to pick their first/middle name is to open your back door and shout it like "Teagan Renee, it's time for dinner." If you can shout it three times and it sounds right, you know you have the perfect name.

Just a thought

good luck this week ~

I love both Teagan (TEE-gan) and Tegan (TAY-gan), but they are different names with separate origins and pronunciations, so there's really no need to try to create a new spelling. Obviously, if it's the TAY-gan pronunciation you prefer, it's as simple as going with Tegan. ;)

If anyone has any trouble with it, by the way, you could simply remind them that it rhymes with Megan (which is properly said MAY-gan or MEG-an ... they're the same, just putting both to clarify).

Tegan is absolutely lovely, by the way. ;) As to middle names, I like Tegan Rose (if you want common), Ruby, Pearl, Amelia, Isla (IE-la), Fiona, Fiora, Scarlett, Genevieve, Cecilia, Eloise, Harper, Felicity, Avalon or Aveline (since you liked Ava), Viola, etc. Hope that helps! ;)

Edited to add the links to Behind the Name's descriptions of the Irish Teagan, Welsh Tegan (not Irish, contrary to an above comment) and Megan, (just to see the pronunciation in writing), as well as a link to Baby Names of Ireland, where you can hear Teagan said aloud.

Please don't listen to those who criticize. They are just being jerks.

You sound really excited about this baby and I am very happy for you... I am sure you'll be a wonderful mom.

The only alternative spelling for Tay-Gan I can think of is Taegan, which I think is very pretty.

For middle names, consider:
Taegan Grace
Taegan Eve
Taegan Ava (since you love it anyhow!)
Taegan Jane
Taegan Felicity
Taegan Lillianne
Taegan Georgia
Taegan Elizabeth
Taegan Geneva
Taegan Genevieve
Taegan Janelle
Taegan Nerissa
Taegan Nicole
Taegan Kiara
Taegan Laurel

Good luck with your beautiful baby!!

Glad to hear you're branching out....I love the new name you have chosen and like both pronunciations.

It's good to go to the hospital equipped with a list of about 4-5 names so when she is born, you can lovingly decide which name fits her best! Aidan just did NOT work for Jack...as much as I liked the name!!

I think Teagan is the most obvious spelling, and the best choice.

But since it is a little gender neutral, I'd choose a more feminine mn:

Teagan Rose
Teagan Elisabeth/Elizabeth
Teagan Grace
Teagan Kate

As you say, this little one is still in utero - if she grows up to complain about her boyish given name, she can always fall back on her middle moniker.

Happy baby!

My friends name is actually Teegan. Her middle name is Emily. The "Tay-gan" pronounciation is interesting. Maybe Taegan would be good. That's the only way I can think of without using "Y". Good luck.
