if i called my dad an idiot and he slapped the back of my head very hard, is that abuse?

Not in my book it isn't...

My neighbor has a son that did the very same thing. He was about 12 or 13 at the time He called the Police and reported child abuse. When the officer arrived the child told the officer what happened and the Officer Scolded the Kid for talking back to his parent.

If I had called my Parents any names including Idiot, I would have gotten more than a slap on the back of the head.
