If you had some greasy mess inside, yes it will smoke. The self cleaning mode is just the highest temp setting possible over a period of time. It is designed to literally burn anything left in there to crisp so you can just scrape the ashes and sweep them out. Unless you really left a lot of greasy stuff in there I would not be concerned with some smoke.
Good Luck!

This happens if you had a spill in the oven ,so before using the self clean wipe the oil or grease off with a paper towel or wet rag. turn the fan on and you will be fine , make sure that you take the racks out because the heat will turn them yellow if you don't.and keep the light of your oven off . While the oven is cleaning open the windows if you can or just use a fan to circulate the air. Now I will give you a tip on how to clean the grills/racks I get a large plastic bag and place the racks inside and I spray Off Oven Cleaner Fumes Free, close the bag and when your oven is done cleaning it self so are the racks, rinse in the sink and you are done . But whatever you do NEVER use an oven cleaner in a self cleaning oven ,it will be ruined . I love my oven it sure save me a lot of work and I would never go back to the old ways!

we've a 'self-cleansing oven' and we don't clean it, because of the fact the FUMES are NOXIOUS ... there is 'smoke' however the warmth interior the oven is so severe and the failings being 'burned' are burning so quickly, the 'smoke' isn't seen. you should in basic terms use the 'self-purifier' once you would be OUT of the abode for an entire 3-4 hours, and you should leave as many doorways and abode windows OPEN so 'clean air' can get in, and the smoke can leave ... and the worst of this is, which you should in no way use an 'oven purifier' on a self-cleansing oven ... it won't paintings and the subsequent time you swap the oven-purifier on you would be exposing your self to the 'burning chemical ingredients' left over from the 'spray oven purifier.' be careful ... you will no longer die, yet once you or your toddlers have any style of immune deficiency (even a chilly, or an open sore) you should grow to be very unwell ...

Not normally excessive smoke.

However if you have an abnormal amount of spills in there that can happen. Next time either don't wait too long or wipe up the worst spills before starting the cleaning cycle. If you don't want to do those and your kitchen has an exhaust fan you might need to keep that running.

If the oven is old and very dirty it will. Before turning it to self clean next time, try to remove all the loose charcoil from the bottom.

Did you have something spill on the bottom of the oven? This might be the problem.
