I'm in college and I feel like maybe I'm naive and I'm not studying enough. All of my classes seem easy/fine to me. I haven't had any trouble. But it seems like everyone else is spending a lot more time studying.

I haven't had any tests yet (my first are in two weeks), and I do my homework for classes every day. MWF I have three classes and I do homework for about... Three or four hours. Maybe a bit more. Tues/Thurs, I have two classes and it takes me two to three hours.

I haven't actually "studied" anything yet. But I plan on doing so about a week before the tests.

Is that stupid of me? I feel like I'm fine, but I don't want to not study and then realize that I really should have.

There are no hard and fast guidelines. Maybe you just learn faster and easier than most people.

Various state offices of higher education suggest that every hour in a college course should require from 1 to 3 hours of study outside of class. You are within that estimate, tho' at the lower end of the range.

I can attest that I was much like you, and I finished college with a fine enough GPA to carry me into graduate school. For my written comprehensive exams for the PhD, my fellow grad students started studying months in advance--I, on the other hand, waited until one week before and spent a little time studying preview questions and reviewing my notes. I passed all the written exams, with only one brief moment of panic when I thought I didn't know anything about the answer (turns out I just needed to think calmly and remember something).

It all depends on what kinds of classes you are taking, how hard the classes are, and how well you are learning the material (or how well you already know the material). It sounds like you are in your first year of college. Maybe you remember a lot from high school, and the first couple weeks of your classes are covering the basics. As long as you are up to date with your homework and reading, you are already better off than a lot of people. For studying, a week before the test might be ok for some classes, but for classes with a lot of memorization (like organic chem, or some biology classes) you should study every day.

Since this is your first year, you won't really know how your study strategy works until you have taken your first round of midterms. When I was a first year student in chemistry, in my first quarter, I waited until a couple days before the midterm to read the book. While I did good in the class because chem comes naturally to me and I remembered a lot from high school, I quickly realized that cramming before a test is insane, and college is a lot easier if you do your reading and homework problems every day.

no thats not study of you.. I do the same thing and sometimes a little less. but the good thing is your doing homework every night so when you do that you are actually going over your work.. which helps you understand it more and actually remember what you were taught in class. Maybe everyone is studing more because they don't pay attention in class, doesn't do homework as often as you or they have test comong up soon. But I think your fine.. when your test actually do come up you won't have spend too much time studying. Good Luck

Everyone has different studying habits. If studying a week before the test works for you then stick with it.
