I assume you are talking about the PC or Windows world, and as far as I know, the other answers are correct.

If you really want to salivate a little, however, check out the specs on an Apple Mac Pro... you can get one with dual quad 3GHz Xeon processors and up to 16 Gigs of RAM!!! You can load Windows on a Mac with "Boot Camp" software, but I'm not sure how XP would handle all this hardware!

BUT, like they said... it's spendy! The processors alone at about $1500 to the price, and 16 Gigs of RAM add about $4500. Of course these are Apple direct prices, I'm sure one could do the RAM cheaper elsewhere. Still, this system is not for the faint of heart (or wallet.) It's geared toward high-end graphics & video apps. (It also has 4 PCI Express slots, so you can do at least two dual-head video cards with FOUR monitors!)

One version of a dream machine, but I'm not sure how much it would help with games & such... the performance curve would probably start to level off way before you maxed it out.

Bottom line: The technology exists, it's just not practical for the average user... YET.

You can get a server motherboard, but it will run you upwards of $400, and you will end up having to buy special RAM, and server processors, all of which are going to drive the cost way up. However when AMD released there new processors, the will have a board that will support two quad cores, and should be a little more reasonable in price. As for performance, it will only help if a game is multithreaded (Crysis is) and it will definately help in Maya and after effects.

It can be done. But it would cost a pretty penny. Most likely a motherboard that uses two processors will be a server motherboard, but dont get me wrong you can still use it for normal everyday computer or gaming. This would make your computer go blazing fast, but you would also need a decent amount of RAM. Great processors need RAM. I would go with 4 gb but thats just me 2 gb is the lowest I would go with two quad processors.
