The O2 sensor is commonly called the oxygen sensor and is part of the emissions system. They are a bit expensive since they last sometimes longer than the car and have some platinum in them. It will send information to the cars engine management system when the engine is warm or hot and this adjusts the fuel air mix to optimize efficiency and lower emissions.
Most cars after 1996 have two (or three) O2 sensors, one before and one after the catalytic convertor mounted to the exhaust pipe(s) or manifold.
Might just need a to do some basics like a standard tune-up and check the air filter and clean the throttle body and then re-run the engine diagnostic/test. most O2 sensors are good for at least 100-200K miles or more. Other things will cause the O2 sensor to read as a problem.
Good Luck!

It's called an oxygen (O2) sensor. It measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust and relays that to the computer so it can adjust the amount of fuel that it adds to the mixture. Some cars have as many as 4 O2 sensors and they are usually easy to replace. They are found in the exhaust manifold or the exhaust pipe behind the catalytic converter>

0-2 sensor (oxygen sensor)
It is a sensor that reside in the exhaust, there are usually two of them one before the catalytic converter to monitor the air to fuel mixture in the combustion chamber, it does this by measuring voltage resistance in the exhaust stream, which in turn tells the computer how well the fuel was burned and adjust acordingly.
then there is usually one after the catalytic converter to tell the computer whether or not the converter is working.

the 0-2 sensor doesn't regulate the air flow it helps with the gas mixture though on it ,if you got a bad on just replace it,if you have it scanned it will tell you if its bad, or not, anyone who can read a scanner real good can test the 0-2 senor while its on the car,if its bad just replace it and have the dtc cleared from the cars computer, and it should be alright, good luck with it.

oxygen sensor, aka o2; looks like a funky spark plug that's typically found on the manifold area, and will have a wire on top of it. rather easy to change, just dont strip or cross thread em.

Just go to autozone and get one. If you need to replace yours, while you are at autoparts store have them photocopy the page out of the service manual relating to your vehicle
