I have seen small signs for local busineses (like credit repair call this number etc.) posted on telephone poles etc.from time to time. I'd like to advertise my business this way as long as I'm not likely to get fined. How about sticking small signs into the ground on public property at intersections etc. like the politician do? Is this allowable to do?
Thanks for your advice.

No it is not legal. It also causes problems for linemen that may need to climb the poles. many have been hurt by nails and screws that are placed into poles. You may be cited for littering by putting signs on public property. Polititions...thats a whole 'nuther story. Do you really think people have any regard for companies that advertise on poles?

In USA. Telephone poles are legally "private property". The owner of the pole can take you to court for trespass if you post sign on the pole. As long as string/wire is used they usually won't prosecute. If you penetrate the pole w/ nails/screws etc. they usually will prosecute. For signs on public property, you apply to the overseer of the property for permission. So you'll need to discover whether it is municipal, county, state or federal.

As for the poles, I would think it might be illegal. But the small signs at intersections, that would be subject to the local regulations I would say. Call someone at your city hall or for rural areas your local county government office and see if there are any regulations against it.

Actually, it is illegal to post anything on telephone/power poles. Yet, it is rarely, if ever, enforced. As to intersections, it is considered public property, therefore not illegal, unless it poses a sight/visibility problem.
