I have some fineliner written on some paper. I need to set it, to make the paper shiny, and I can use hairspray or PVA glue. the problem is, wont the funeliner run? can anyone advise?

Can you do a 'patch test'? Write with the fineliner on some similar paper and check, if not - can you cover the piece with some clear acetate to make it shiny? Or fasiling that some liquid varnish

Testing a sample is your best bet. If the hairspray makes the ink run, you might check an art supply store to see what other fixatives they have. Some of them don't use the same chemicals that hair spray uses so they may be easier on your ink.


I have used fixatives for charcoal and chalk drawings. A key to using them is to not stand too close to your picture when you spray. You want it to mist the page, not leave a large wet circle from having the spray too close to your art.

the best thing to do is add pva glue to a drop of water to get that shinny look and to see if it will run get a piece of paper and try it out at Least this way you are not ruining you work, also have you thought about laminating you work

Use your fine liner on any type of paper. Take this design and print it out on glossy photo paper.You did say you wanted the PAPER shiny...right? If I'm getting your question right, this should solve your problem with the shiny paper.
