This was from an article by India Knight in the times online... it's one of the most amazing pieces of journalism i have ever read. ao my question is also...What if the McCanns are innocent...do you really believe that in leaving their children alone they deserve to be treated as guilty of murder on here?

laplandfan - good to see there's a few of us who still believe that innocent till proven guilty is a basic human right.

PATRICK M - Thankyou :)...but there are many people who have been trying to bring some reason into this....we just all seem to get a bit lost among the heaps of speculation and accusations here...but i notice them all and admire their sense of fairplay.

LONDONER, pitto and Shooting Star - how right you are, it is not for us to apportion blame or try to become amateur detectives....I too hope they are innocent, and while there is even the slightest possibility they are innocent how can we persecute them at all....well said all of you :)

Plainjane - I understand where you are coming from here, but i also see that the consequence of their actions that night will haunt them forever....so sad and so tragic. it's a high price to pay for a mistake isn't it?

i have always believed them to be innocent and cannot even for a minute begin to imagine what they're going through. losing a child is the worst thing imagineable and then to be accused of her murder is catastrophic. the fact that there is a chance they are inocent should prevent everyone from all these horrific accusations. they could(and in my opinion are) making this entire nightmare even worse for the McCanns. if they are guilty the police will decide and they will be punished-but if they're innocent as i believe, then all this is unbearable. without solid evidence it's not worth risking tormenting grieving parents any further. People should think very carefully before they speak,

Just read that, and have been saying the same all along. Fiddy, mate, you are a star amongst stars, as all us people with a decent compassionate bone in our bodies are. The couple made a mistake, a whole 125 yards of mistake. But I guess they already know that by now.I am not perfect, I have made mistakes in my life, but you lot are so perfect? There is no humanly way possible the McCanns could have,( or I believe would have) Killed Maddie, There is no concrete proof that they had any involvement with harming her,and until there is (which I doubt) I for one will continue to support this unfortunate family. And yes I know I will get the thumbs down, but do I care?

Good article, thanks. Time for reflection for some on Yahoo Q & A's? One idiot asked in current news for a simple yes or no answer to the question if you thought the McCann's were innocent? He then smugly provided a link in another question he posted asking the result of his so called survey to be looked at with the high majority of No answers (funny all the yes ones were hidden). Hope he sees answers to this with the MAJORITY pro McCann. This is being posted by someone you could call sitting on the fence as I simply, like millions of others don't have answers to what has happened to little Madelene but despite it being repeatedly said I do believe in Innocent until proven guilty.

Well done posting that link its nice to know someone has some sense in the middle of the witch hunt. I hope Maddie is found and brought home and then a lot of people might, just might think about the things they have been saying.I know and agree that the children should not have been left especially with a sitter service there, but its all way out of control now.

i hope that the ones who have accused them of murder without knowing any details hold their heads in shame. Some on here think they know it all when nobody apart from the police and authorities dealing with the case know the facts that they have in front of them.It has sickened me by many comments made on here and also jokes said on here about a missing child. It is so nice to see compassion from someone like you. Thanks for putting this on here.

I doubt very much that the McCanns sit at their computers reading Q&A's on Yahoo, they are much too busy pulling in top lawyers to discredit the police findings.

The courts will decide if the McCanns are innocent or guilty, not the public on Yahoo. You appear to have forgotten, the police have found evidence of a crime and discrepancies in statements taken...

The people passing comments on Yahoo, no matter what their opinion, have done nothing to the McCanns, the McCanns have done everything to themselves.

And if. Why the search may be just as cruel as the crime it self. Many have gone through such a soul searching from the start and they are treated as though their whole being had been put through one of the most torturous machines ever devised by a church, I say church because it is a powerful society which brings such judgments upon the people of the land.

if they didn`t do it i do feel sorry for them,i can`t imagine what they are going through, however Maddie was three at the time and as far as i know the twins were only 18 months, my son is two and a half and i have only just stopped using his baby monitor at night, and i am in the same house as him, how on earth could they possibly have imagined it would have been safe to leave three infants alone while they went out to a completely different location, i know they were checked every half hour, but how long does it take for a child to vomit and choke, never mind be abducted.

I post this as neither "pro" nor "anti" the McCanns, I'm just a "don't know" in this case --- but what I do know is that anyone and everyone who has posted vitriol and bile against these people should read this article and then reflect on what they have anonymously written.

The following paragraph stood out for me, and the above-mentioned people should read it again and again until they fully understand it!!

"There is no shortage of on-line places where people may freely and anonymously air their opinions, even if their opinions are vile or demented or both; and there are millions of these newly voluble people. They have made it all right to say unspeakable things, to air the most shameful thoughts, always to think the worst, and never to give anyone a chance."

I've said all along that they are innocent but people on here don't want to hear that. They want the conspiracies & the speculations. They want the parents to be guilty. They jump on every story that is leaked and they dwell on them and turn them round to suit their cause.

The PJ have another witness (the head of ZIG ZAG tv) who has told them something that will possibly get them off the McCanns back. This new evidence will not be spoken about publicly as he feels that is will not be fair to go public for the time being. I hope that they leave the McCanns alone to cope with everything that has happened to them.

Even if little Maddie walked out of some where and said I'm here. The ghouls on here would still go on about people being neglegent and it's there fault. There was a member yesterday claiming that he had single handedly changed peoples views against the McCanns on YA. What a hero - not.

The McCanns have not deserved this. No parent or anyone should have to face trial by media.

The shame of it is - inncocent or guilty their lives have been ruined by a slur on their names and people won't care they will just move on to the next subject.

It is what we do to everyone. We treat them as though they are guilty and treat them in this manner for the remainder of their lives.
I hope they did no harm to their daughter. How can anyone kill their own blood? If they wanted dinner withoit the children why did they not leave them with a sitter or grand parents?
I certainly hope she is not deceased. In that one picture Maddy looks idential to a Prescious Moment doll.
