I have been a parent who has a 14 year old how's had ADHD for years. It is very hard to deal with a child or an adult who may have this problem. To answer your ? in how this effects a child or an adult in school or work. A child goes to school to learn and get a education right? I f the child can't do what he or she needs to do then you need to take control and try to help them. You may have to put him or her on meds to help them contrite on their school work. And as for an adult I would think that it would work the same. You need to e able to do your tasks, that they would expect you to do. Be I would talk to your doctor and see what he or she may think if you are an adult...

ADD and the way it affects kids at school and work... hmmm.. there are a lot of different ways to answer that question.
My oldest son has ADD w/ explosive anger disorder so school was difficult for him... he was so bored from not being challenged enough so he acted out. I dont know why kids do that but mine did.
He would have much rather do the science and the pe than the math and social studies.
Kids with ADD and other mental disorders need to be challenged more at school but it also helps to have teachers and other kids that understand the difficulties of haveing ADD/ADHD.
