I have stayed in a few places in Las Vegas including the Excalibur.
Now, I don't require the best accommodations but it does have to be clean and affordable! I have stayed at NY NY hotel, Treasure Island, Excalibur (after the remodel), Luxor and I have visited many others.
I do not recommend Excalibur! I thought it would a good price for it's location and everything, but I hated it. It's old, dirty, and although they have family kid stuff, it's dirty there. I came out of the shower only to see a cockroach run across the bed and that is when I moved hotels.
I recommend:
NY NY-It's on the strip, newer, clean, young and fun and pretty affordable.
Treasure Island-On the strip across from the Venetian, new, clean, and fun.
Monte Carlo-I haven't stayed there but friends have a it's pretty.
To get a good rate book as far in advance as possible and go to their direct website and shop their specials.
Good luck and happy travels!

The Excalibur has made many upgrade in the hotel, the race and sports book, they are putting in another pool area and they are updating the rooms as well. The hotel is still a very nice place to stay, very nice location at an affordable price. Someone had stated above about Boulder Station, which is a nice hotel as well, but is NOT close to the strip! It is approx about 5 miles away from the strip area. Other than that a nice hotel with nice rooms. I guess if you are looking to come to Las Vegas and stay on the strip, with a good location, Excalibur had very competitive rates it is newer than the Tropicana and the Imperial Palace which would be the other two hotels with the most competitive rates on the strip. Sometimes you can find some great rates at the Luxor, Monte Carlo or Planet Hollywood. The Stratosphere, Sahara, Circus Circus, and Riviera would not be within walking distance to the middle of the strip. But usually have good rates as well. Hope this information helps.

The excalibur is a nice hotel. The last place I stayed surprised me with how nice it was and the price was right. Boulder Station Hotel & Casino, it's better than the excalibur. The excaliber offers more for children if that is a issue. IN NO WAY IS IT TRASHY.

Excalibur is a wiped out sell off. The rooms scent like chemical taken care of smoke and it has a run down sense to it. stay at Wynn Las Vegas - lots nicer and you will pay a similar fee in case you e book a equipment or pass by way of Hotwire.

STAY at he Excaliber!!! My parents have stayed there a lot -- AND my cousin just had their wedding in LV, and all of the guests stayed a The Excalibur.... it is NICE, and the good news is that it is a GREAT deal! : )
Decent rooms, and BONUS: this hotel is in a GREAT location: it actually connects to The MGM Grand across the street, and is home to Coyote Ugly bar.... and is in a CENTRAL location on the strip! : )
It is ALL good!
Before you book --- check out deals on:
www.travelocity.com
AND....
www.hotwire.com
Why..? These 2 websites give the BEST deals when you Book BOTH your hotel AND airfare TOGETHER!
: )
Good luck!

Yes...my first time in Vegas(06), we stayed at the Excalibur and it was nice! It was clean, we had enough towels. But we really didn't stay in the room much, just to shower and change...HAVE FUN!!!

It's a fine hotel, but be prepared for lots and lots of kids and very long lines for check in and the buffet, and other eating places. I didn't care for it. I raised my kids and don't go to Vegas to spend time with any others. This is fine for families.
