...On SNL just a couple o' years back? When she was busted lip syncing on live tv. (though it seems that's no big deal to today's kids)

Now all we've got this big, dumb Britney "comeback" , a host of generic scene bands & "Idol".

Is it only me, or does it seem the vast majority (whoever they are) are sitting back & happily accepting musical mediocrity?

Remember that young girl who started that Stop Ashlee Simpson campaign? I was So damn proud of her! I DEF' signed that petition! Even emailed & chatted w/ her for a bit in support. That Haven't seen much of ol' Ashlee since, have we?

It is So damn tempting to get another similar movement afoot for the current crap out now.

I know there's plenty out there who feel the same way....or am I in the minority?

Definitely aware lip syncing is nithing new at all. The Beatles even did it a few times. (sometimes out of necessity in their case), but the huge difference between then & now is that it's seems far more widelt acceptable today.

It's almost *expected* of today's pop acts live. Whereas back as recently as the late 80s, it was frowned upon in concert. (eg: Milli Vanilli)

To call either Ashlee or Britney "mediocre" would be an insult to a load of average musical talent. The people who are fans of both these nimrods aren't true music fans. They are more closely aligned to the chuckle-heads that live off a diet of tabloids and reality television. The big problem today though is it seems the public is far too forgiving with lip synching compared to when Milli Vanilli got busted during the early 90's.

I do remember the SNL incident.. I was standing by watching and waiting for her ship to sink.. It took a while but it did eventually. I really hate the lip syncing thing, but it has always been around to some extent, and now that people seem to tolerate it, it appears that it will not stop anytime soon. I think a musician with any pride in his work would never choose the option to lip sync. I recall Mike Patton being very unhappy about having to lip sync on top of the pops when he was in Faith No More. (He just stood there opening and closing his mouth like a dead fish.) More people should be outraged about lip syncing. Anybody can sound great with a bit of studio magic, but when a musician can sound just as great live, that's when you know they are the real deal.

Yeah Fonz, remember Milli Vanilli getting crucified for their whole thing??! Now it's just commonplace....AND accepted! I give up! I still contend, i've never heard one "Live" note out of Britney, and i think a lot of people don't realize that, and it just goes to show - today when most people want to go see their favorite popstars , that's pretty much all they're doing....cause it's all canned and fake. Hell! when Brit did the VMA's this time, she didn't even bother with a headset mic to even APPEAR to fake anyone out! ....cause it was enough that people get to see her. LOL!

I think it's pretty sad how so many singers and bands do that more often today... So many of them rely on the studio to make them sound good, and they sound terrible when they have to present their music to an audience without a lot of electronic aid, so they just take the easy way out.

There are quite a few bands and singers that don't sound very good live, but at least they actually give it a shot.

I totally agree. And what really annoys me is all these girls and boys that can't sing at all but they get so popular bc they can dance well or have nice bodies. I mean if you closed your eyes and listened to say Jessica Simpson sing, she wouldn't have made it as a singer. How do these people that have no vocal or musical talent become so popular? It's pretty scary.
