Do most companies pay for this ?

Everyone seems to forget, the willingness of any company paying for interview trips is highly dependent on the degree of difficulty in filling the position. If there are lots of local candidates, chances are they wouldn't pay for it and success rate of a distant candidate is lower as well.

If this is a CTO or CIO position and there are one in millions who has the right combination of expertise, then you bet they will be paying.

Best wishes.

In most cases and for "professional" jobs, I would say yes. Another way to think about things when on a professional job search, would you want to work for a company that doesn't pay for these types of expenses?

They did pay for travel a long time, ago. Mileage, flights, meals, and car.

It is unlikely that you will get anything for local travel.

You may expect that they will arrange a flight and car for long distance. It is unlikely that you will get meals or car mileage.

Higher level empoyees will get better travel arrangements.

If you are going far (airplane trip or several hundred miles) and would be relocating if you took the position, yes.
If the travel is just like your daily commute, no.
