oops - a couple of the previous answers (from 037G and
quitenewhere) are not correct. Here is the way I learned
and works for me:
To convert centigrade to Fahrenheit (note correct spelling):
multiply by 9, divide by 5 and then add 32
To convert from Fahrenheit to centigrade, go backwards:
subtract 32, then multiply by 5 and divide by 9.
Example: Convert 40°C to F; multiply by 9 & get 360;
divide 360 by 5 get 72 and add 32; sum is 104°F
Another: Convert 212°F to C; subtract 32 and get 180;
multiply by 5 and get 900; divide by 9 and get 100°C.
Hope this helps.

Fahrenheit to centigrade ( known as celsius)
F = 9/5(c )+ 32
Multiply both sides of the equation by the reciprocal of 9/5
5/9F = 5/9(9/5)(c) + 32
5/9F = c + 32
Trannspose 32
5/9(F - 32) = c + 32 - 32
Collect like terms
5/9(F - 32) = c. . .â. ,.Centigrade(celsius) formula

Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature, then multiply by five-ninths.
For example: 59 - 32 = 27.
27 x (5/9) = 15
So 59 degrees F equals 15 degrees C.

(F - 32) x 5 / 9 = C
Example:
212 - 32 = 180
180 x 5 / 9 = 100
So 212 F = 100 C

Use these formulas for convertion:
F = (5/9)C+32
C=9(F-32)/5
