I hope this means that you're interested in understanding what fear is all about(?) There are four kinds of fear: Happiness (by which I mean joy, enthusiasm and bouncing off the walls--including laughter (humor)) is a fear of being found out--literally, being found [to be] out--of the womb, home, school, work, etc. It is the expression and source of the Flight instinct in human beings. It is also the heart of the Mating instinct--i.e., playing hard-to-get.
Sadness originates in the phase or stage of weaning, and for our purposes is fear of being left out. In humans, it is the expression of what I assume will one day be recognized as the instinct to dodge (I could explain, but that would be a digression). Is not Sadness and crying seen as an expression of fear on occasion, like in children?
Indifference is really Pride and originates in the onset of Puberty, when boys and girls erect walls between themselves and their parents and privacy issues arise. This is the setting in which fear of being shut out is active/activated.
This fear is equivalent to the "deer-in-the-headlights" syndrome--i.e., paralysis, which, actually, is an attempt to blend into ones surroundings by not moving a muscle--i.e., hiding.
Finally, children become sexually active in the home, sooneror later, and there is pressure on the parents to get the kids out and living their own lives. To one degree or another, this sets off a fear of being kicked out in response.
Is any of this making sense? If so, then when we experience fear--emotion, then it follows that we need only identify it and then assess the real-time need for it. Eventually, we could, roughly-speaking, turn it off like a light-bulb, with the proviso that we recognize that action is emotion and emotion is action--in other words, we are subjected to fear one way or another all our lives, but we don't have to live with it excessively or unnecessarily.

Fear is a sign of the ego's efforts for survival. There are many ways of dealing with fear, including hypnosis, Reiki, Bach Flowers, Homeopathy and of course counselling etc.
