Why do women say "why"?

My girlfriend always says "why" during. I've even asked her why but she couldn't really say. And I've known other women to do the same. Why is that?

It has to do with the train of thought of females being in the past/future while the trail of thought of the male is in the present. It's a survival thing.

Because it buys us time to think up an answer.
