I think the deepest water I've ever jumped into and it didn't bother me was like 11 feet deep. I'd pick the highest platform and just go for it! The thrill of just jumping off something high and falling in mid air, then splashing into deep water was somewhat of a rush for me. I didn't mind doing that. But if I were just sitting at the end of the pool looking at deep blue water? That freaks me out! ( o _ 0 ) I just can't stand to look it!

No, they're beautiful, they are a true sign that G-d has been here. Just what they were talking about in the Old Style commercials, "brewed in G-d's country", although some people would say that's in Texas, and The Cowboy's are G-d's team.

I think it's because it's another world wonder altogether, and plus the fact that it's very difficult to move in water you're surrounded by a murky colour with no walls, no limits, no barriers and as there is a lot of darkness that only increases your fear.

Not only can you not see anything, but you're surrounded by an endless possibility of things that could be there. And for people who have seen a lot of horror films as they've been growing up, if they enter the ocean AFTER that's just asking for trouble.

They haven't learnt to adapt properly to accept large bodies of water as they are, and to accept that they're safe providing you take precautions. I remember that I went to Holland once when I was six and I was never afraid then.

Then I watched an episode of Buffy when I was about 7 (I was never a fan - but it was just on TV at the time, I was bored and my sister watched it, so so did I) and it had these really disturbing creatures under the water. There had been a warning at the start to say that it would probably put you off swimming for the rest of your life, but as one of the people who never believe that I watched it.

I'm 16 now and I hate going into water deeper than as tall as I am and I hate being in water like that on my own, say at a swimming pool with nobody I know even if there are other people around. I deeply regret watching that episode because I used to love swimming and now I hate it and you wouldn't catch me dead anywhere near water places.

you question is about large bodies of water, but you talk of swimming pools,

when I think of large bodies of water, I think of lakes at least 20 to 40 miles long, or larger.

I kayak and some water, only a 1000 meters across can be as tough as being in the north sea.

I'm not afraid of large bodies of water, but I know my limitations and I make the necessary adjustment for them so that I can be ready in an emergency.

I do not want the government telling me what I can and can not do. At the same time, unless I am really in dire straits, I will not ask for help. No one puts me in a situation, and I don't need big brother to come save me unless it is really a bad deal.

I wish more felt the same way.

I can tell you this, in the area I kayaked, people died on a regular basis, though I do not know why.

I'm rather strange when it comes to water. I love it... Can't get enough of it. But I can't swim worth a hoot.

I can doggie-paddle and frog around a bit. And I can swim on my back. That's about it. I'm not afraid though. Everyone gets so pissed at me, because I'll run right out into the ocean. I know it isn't a wise thing to do (since I venture out pretty far and because the ocean isn't anything like a pool for obvious reasons), but I'm hard-headed.

I've actually scared the piss out of myself before.... For instance, a few years ago, when I was with my parents in Myrtle Beach, I paddled out until my feet couldn't touch the ocean floor. No biggie.....until a wave slapped the crap out of me. I went under for a few seconds and then made my way back above the water and paddled until my feet touched the ocean floor (with my head above water), and then I walked sideways until I reached the shore. Scarey, but I was d*ckheaded enough to do it again.

I won't be offended if you call me stupid. LOL

I dont like to be in water that is deep enough that something can swim up and eat me or nibble useful body parts. Pools are fine with me. I do like rivers as long as im a floatation device. Oceans........... do you know a shark can eat you in less than 2 ft of water. Yep its true!

I'm good in a pool or a lake, but don't mess with the ocean. I have no survival swimming skills, so I wouldn't even try to swim there. Rip tides are deadly.

most defenately. i think im scared of it because its almost like there is no gravity in the water and when its really far down its much different than standing on the ground, im accustomed to. but in natural waters im scared of something huge rubbing up against my leg... i would FREAK!!!

No, I love water. Ocean tides scare me a bit, but other than that I'm good.
