It matters what type of paint you use. Keep in mind that aerosol paint is perhaps half propellant so durability is sketchy with them. Additionally, fiberglass always requires an etching primer, paint will not adhere to fiberglass or aluminum without an etching primer. If you used a waterproof paint designed for industrial marine use like Top Secret Coating's 1 Part Epoxy, then it will with hold forever and continue looking new for years. Plus it won't chalk, peel, or come off. However if you were to use a paint that is only water resistant, not labeled "water proof" then the paint will come off quickly since salt water is very corrosive. There is a big difference between water resistant and waterproof!

The primer I refer to is Top Secret's TS-664 Fiberglass & Aluminum Etching Primer and the epoxy is TS-100 1 Part Epoxy. They can be brushed, rolled or sprayed. These products are available at Top Secret's online store. Good luck.

Just spraying on your board would come off... not from the water, but the wear of you moving on the board !! The resin surface might take a good enamel spraypaint after THOROUGH cleaning and preparation, but it won't last too long.

If you want to put a specific design on it... generate the design, and talk to your board-shop about putting it under a quick layer of resin. THEN it will last and last and last.

Good Luck

I've seen surfboards that have been spraypainted, and I haven't been impressed with the results. They end up looking like the side of a freeway overpass, if u know what I mean.

Nope, it'll come off.

Try enamel, if you can work with that.
