So here's the deal...I recently moved to Atlanta, GA and I am have a tough time finding work. My background is in administrative support, most recently as a legal secretary for 2 years at a criminal law office in Florida. And I have a bachelor's degree.

An acquaitance suggested that I try being a cocktail waitress
(specifically at a gentlemen's club) in the meantime to make some quick money. My question is how likely is it that I can be hired with absolutely no experience in the food service/beverage industry?

I've been checking ads (craigslist, local newspaper), and I found a position as a cocktail server at an upscale restaurant in a 5-star hotel. I know it doesn't take a Ph.D. to take an order and serve someone a drink, but it goes back to that whole "lack of experience" thing. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks a million!

skip the gentlemen's club ( i assume it involves girls stripping), take the one at the upscale restaurant. if you have ever been in a bar, or ordered a drink, you have experience. it is not rocket science, you have to hustle, you are on your feet a lot, but you make great money. stress your work ethic, and your great attitude & personality during your interview. tell them, that you are a fast learner, and a people person. we train most our cocktail servers, very few have experience. keep looking for a job in your field, while making money serving drinks. good luck !

Don't do it. If you have been a legal secretary before, and liked it enough, then a job like that will come along soon enough. You said that you are a hustler, so go out and hustle up a legal secretary job. Go where attorneys go and get your resume out there. Go to the courthouse and hand them out, or go to attorneys' offices and hand them out, or join some social club and find out who knows attorneys. Let people in your area know you need help and ask THEM for it.

You won't know until you apply for a few jobs. Not having experience will hurt your chances, but won't necessarily rule you out, although you probably won't have a real good shot at the places with high tips, since they'll also get applications from people with a lot of experience.

Good luck.

Well, if you are looking for the big bucks, perhaps the cocktail waitress is expected to supply something more than food and drinks.
