* pedal is a little spongy and travels a little further than normal
* there is a whooshing sound when I press on the pedal. it's loud and located right where the arm goes through the firewall.
* when I take the vacum line off of the power booster the brakes get rock hard and if i really stand on it the brakes do stop the car.
* i gravity bled and did the old pump and drain bleeding and noticed no air in the lines.
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Sounds as if you are either leaking vacuum at the power booster or you have a bad diaphragm in your master cylinder.

The travel can be taken out of your pedal by adjusting your rear brakes.

I'm assuming when you bled the system you started with the passenger rear, drivers rear, passenger front , then drivers front. Otherwise air can be trapped in your line.

first of all i would check to make sure that the brake pads and or brake shoes have enough pads on them then bled the system to get all the air out have someone sit in the car and pump the brakes then hold it down hard then open the bleed screw to make sure the fluid shoots out close it while the brake is to the floor repeat two or three times for each wheel this will get all the air out make sure there is enough fluid in the master cylinder when the bleeding is done fill up your master cylinder, the whooshing you hear is normal coming from the power buster good luck
