Is it wrong for me to want my own checking account seperate from my bf? We have a joint account, but he controls every penny I make. He is angry that I want my own, but I just want to have some ocntrol over my own money. I never have any cash, while he always does. Why do I feel guilty for wanting my own?

Oh, my Greatness! Girl, open your OWN account and have your paycheck routed to that account! He is so controlling right now, don't miss the warning signs. Sometimes, we have a tendency to do that. You guys are NOT married. Control your own finances. After all, it is YOU who Works for that Paycheck . Right? Don't lose yourself, best of wishes.

I feel I need to reinforce the other answers. Open your own checking and have your paycheck direct deposited. Me and my s.o. have been together for 3 years and lived together for 2, and we still dont have a joint account. We discuss finances once a month to split up the bills, so we pretty much know what the other has, but I have my own accts, and he has his.

it is not wrong to have control over you own life. you're not married, why are you intimidated by his trying to control you? you make up your own mind. take care of yourself and go and open an account. if he doesn't like it , tuff. he can go find a different girl to control

You feel guilty because you are being brain washed and controlled. I think you should get the heck out of that relationship before you lose your sense of self entirely.

he has no say in your financial matters and if he's controling you now this way, you'd better wake up and smell the coffee as it'll get worse with marriage!dump him now before he starts controlling everything you do.he sounds like a loser.
