The dishwasher works just fine, but the problem is that the holes in the bottom of it where the waer comes out are clogged up with this white stuff. Is there any fix to unclogging these holes? I tried using toothpicks in these small holes but it is difficult to reach inside the dishwasher and get it all out. Is there any household cleaner I could run in the dishwasher or anything to help?

Sounds like hard water (lime) buildup. Try CLR...

Dishwashers and Washing Machines:
Run empty machine without detergent up to main wash cycle. Stop machine and add one-half cup CLR. Finish cycle. Run one additional full cycle (wash and rinse) with cold water only to rinse machine fully.

Unclogging A Dishwasher

You may have two kinds of cloggings, debris and lime crystals.

Start with the rotating arm in the center, that is typically held on with a nut at its center. Get a wrench and turn that nut counterclockwise while holding the rotating arm. Take the arm off and shake it to get out any glass from broken dishes that might be clogging it (which is worse than just white lime deposits).

Now put on rubber gloves and try using an old toothbrush with undiluted vinegar to see if you can get out the white deposits that are doing the clogging. If that is successful you know how to do cleaning. If not get a bottle of strong acidic cleaner like CLR to try.

When you have cleaned this part, you have an approach that you can apply to the rest of the spray mechanisms. If they are bolted on (as top sprayers usually are) take them off and hand scrub them. If some do not come off, empty the dishwasher and pour in the cleaning stuff and some hot water and then let it fill with the rest of the hot water and run a rinse cycle to circulate the chemical through all the openings.

There are products you can buy that are made for cleaning your dishwasher but there is a cheaper and equally effective alternative. If your dishwasher has a removable filter it should be cleaned each month. Otherwise, purchase a small container of Tang breakfast drink or any similar gritty drink powder. The grittiness of the powder will clean the dishwasher as the granules act as tiny bits of sand that loosen and wash away any stuck on bits of food. Run your dishwasher through a normal cycle empty of any dishes. Fill the detergent dispenser with Tang rather than your usual detergent. By the end of the cycle the granules will have have been washed away leaving a clean and fresh smelling dishwasher.

Bet you have hard water, don't you? We do too. This is calcium buildup from the water. It might be too late, but try this:

Take out the dishes,
Fill the tan with water,
Open the door (don't worry the water will not spill out) and pour a whole cup of white vinegar in the water,
Close the door and let the machine run its course.

In the future when washing dishes, during the last rinse cycle pour l/2 cut white vinegar in the water, close the door, finish the rinsing and drying cycles.

If this does not help, you might have to buy a new dishwasher. Be sure to do the vinegar thing each time you wash dishes.

You can also call or email the distributor for their suggestions.

I need help with that too! It's from hard water, so unless we get a water softener it will keep doing it.

Soda crystals and a hot wash. The white stuff is congealed fat.
