What kind of python? If a ball python, no.
Alyssa, there are many species of pythons which could potentially eat a cat. African rock pythons, amethystine pythons, coastal carpet pythons, and Indian pythons all exceed 10 feet and can eat a cat. Even a large blood python could, no problem.
Reptilian Queen, there has never been a 40 foot snake. The record is a 33 foot reticulated python, but this is a very rare case.
Animal Freak, ball pythons average 14 inches at hatching, so if yours was 6, there was something wrong with it.

It depends on what kind of snake he has. I had a Ball Python that was about 6 inches when I got it & I fed him live pinkie mice. As he grew I went up on the size. When I had to move & give him to a friend he was about 4-5 feet long & eating a medium rat about every 2 weeks. As for eating the cat. There are snakes who could possibly get big enough, but those snakes are rarely seen in home enviornments & always fed rabbits. The only way the snake could get the cat is if the snake is allowed to roam free in the house, which I don't recommend. I think you would be best to find out just what type of python you have & do some serious recearch. You can get some really good books at the bigger book stores. Good Luck

hi there
it all depends on what type of python it is ...
rock pythons
reticulated pythons
burmese pythons
and a few others would probly ya they would try but thats only instinces but hey get like well the bigest one is 40 feet and thats a retcic
but if the python ur talking about is a ball python or some thing else then ur fine it cant even get big enough to eat a rabbit ...let alone a cat...but there r some ppl who r rude and crul enough to feed thair large pythons like burms and retics and rocks cats and kittens
yes pythons do eat stuff besides mice but only as they get larger (and by eating stuff other than mice u mean veggies and friuts ...no)pythons dont hav a large veritety of foods to eat they hav the only choice of meat...
incuding
mice
rats
guinna pigs
rabbits
and some will even eat
small chickens or chicks (depending on size)
small birds
fish
other snakes
lizards
ect...
hope this helps

My redtail got out once when she was a baby, about 2 1/2 ft long, I couldn't find her...;o( I thought she had managed to get out of the house somehow. One moring, about 2 weeks later, I was sitting on the edge of my bed with my feet up, trying to wake up, when my blue russian persian came wandering down the hall, got to the door of my room, jumped at least 3' up in the air and took off back down the hall. Lacey(snake) was a rescue, and a very aggressive snake...was laying there beside my bedside table, looking up at me like..."what's his problem???"....The snake wasn't big enough to eat the cat..and the cat was smart enough to stay away from the snake...Depending on what kind of snake and what size. I would NEVER allow (on purpose) for my snakes and cat to be lose together...good luck.

Very unlikely that would happen, unless its one of the large pythons like a Burmese, Reticulated, Rock or something of that enormous size. If thats the case, keep the two seperated as those large snakes can eat something of cat size. Snakes shouldn't be wandering the house alone anyways.
As for what they can eat..... mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, baby chickens, and the larger ones mentioned above will also take gunea pigs, rabbits, and adult chickens.

Only Burmese and Reticulated pythons get big enough to threaten cats. Ball pythons, children's pythons, etc. won't bother them.
Snakes will eat whatever they find, mammal, bird, or reptile/amphibian. Of course, the snake and cat shouldn't be in the same room anyway, so it shouldn't be a concern at all.

Indeed, your cat is in real danger!!!!!!
As pythons grow, they begin to feed on bigger animals like goats, antelopes and rabbits. Not only that a fully grown python can even swallow a 2 months baby!.
please, watch out!!
