ok so i have a friend. she was raped when she was 14. she is 17 now so it was pretty much 3 years ago. She said that she didn't go to the police because she was young and confused. her "friends" weren't there for her and her parents were out of town at the time it happened so she didn't really have anyone to really talked to. she ended up having a mis-carriage and went to the hospital. this also happened to 3 other of her friends who claim that same guy rape them. her main purpose to put this guy behind bars because she doesn't want this happen to any other girl. What are some of her options as of right now? can they build a strong case if all the girls came forward?

it's never too late to report a rape, there have been many cases where the rape in question happened decades ago.

It will obviously be harder to prove that he is guilty, in the lack of physical evidence. However, if all the girls agree to testify against him, they should have an extremely strong case against him.

In this particular case, it will be tough to prove that a rape occurred. If all the women complain together, it will help the case, but it will not necessarily make the case. The biggest obstacle is evidence. If none of the women came forward right after the rapes, it will be difficult to come up with physical evidence, such as DNA, torn clothing , etc.

Depending on the state, It is never too late to file charges in cases of rape (no statute of limitations on this type crime in many states). Obviously the longer ago this was, the less evidence you now have. Still there is strength in numbers. My department recently tried a case of rape that occurred 10 years earlier. The jury unfortunately found for the defendant and he was released. There was only one complainant in that case. In yet another case, we had three complainants and the defendant pled no contest and was sentenced to jail.

The normal statute of limitations for rape would be 7 years. Wisconsin, and I'm sure many other states, have exceptions for minors. In WI, she can report it right up to her 31st birthday. Call your prosecuting attorney's office, they have a victim coordinator that can help you. Don't wait too long, the longer the time frame, the more difficult it is to prove.

You can report it but the statute of limitations for crimes is 7 years. The only crime that has not statute is murder. If this happened 3 years ago then its a matter of he say she say. Unless she has some good proof, there wouldn't be much evidence.
