Everybody was bashing USC, how they did not deserved the #1 ranking but after beating Neb. at home, I think they proved to the world they're #1. Or did you think beating Neb. wasn't impressive enough for them to retain their lofty #1 rank?

Sure why not. It's only September. I thought they would be ranked #1 all year since they have an easy schedule. Nebraska isn't the same as the Huskers of old. They have lost the last 7 straight to ranked teams. So a team that is not that great anymore isn't that impressive. Still since the polls are a beauty contest they will remain #1. Fanatic does a powerhouse defense give up 41 points in 2 games? I don't think so. And don't use the second and third team defense as an excuse. The Condoms were supposed to have so much depth. Magneto how about LSU? They beat a top 10 team (at the time) 48 to 7. And yes they played 2nd and 3rd team defenses. Wouldn't you say that was more impressive than giving up 31 to a #14 team? And why did Booty play at all in the 4th? To try and run up the score. Spurt on Condoms.

First of all, USC deserves its #1 ranking but it's not because of Booty. He is an improved decision maker and is a competent QB but it is the Trojan DEFENSE that makes them a powerhouse. (Fast linebackers, solid secondary, tough pass rush, and can contain the ground attack) Going to Lincoln, Nebraska and putting a hurt like that on the Huskers should be enough to quiet the naysayers. The only other team with a comparable defense is LSU. Lots of teams can put up good offensive numbers but clearly the teams that have strong defenses are the ones that are recognized by the associated press. One way or another, I'd love to see a USC vs. LSU matchup by year's end.

The #1 team will always be questionable as long as there are still undefeated teams along with them.

LSU showed me something with their defeat of VaTech while USC was idle. That is why I thought LSU was #1 at that point. USC showed me more with a win over Nebraska in Lincoln, so now USC deserves the #1 ranking.

But they had better hope the rest of the PAC 10 tows the line (or is it toes the line?) or USC's strength of schedule is going to hurt them the rest of the year.

Any more surprises like UCLA and SC's #1 status is in jeopardy. If not they will likely retain their #1 ranking as long as they win, even after the Florida/LSU game.

Your Funny X saying that USC is the next Michigan. FIrst of all if and that's IF they lose to Nebraska it would be to a No. 9 or wherever they are it really doesn't matter. Michigan lost to a Div. I-AA not I-A so don't compare the Wolves to the Greatness of USC. Ain't it funny how they Excellent and lose to Texas (I take my hat off to V. Young who won the National Title by himself) and yet we're still back in the hunt but other teams win and are out for like another 10 years. so now to the question Hell no first of all **** LSU, and all you hatas know they don't deserve to be that high and be mentioned with the likes of The Trojans. USC is clearly no 1 with all the talent they have. LSU got like 4 or 5 FIrst place votes when USC got a Million(sarcasm). One Bye week for USC won't make them lose all of their first place votes although they'll lose quite a bit of first places especially if LSU manhandles their opponents. But the answer is NO they will not cause USC is so good they don't need to play to remain No. 1 !!

How is it possible to think USC has a superior defense than LSU? LSU has outscored it's opponents 137-7. Last night they put the 2nd string D in at the end of the half against Middle Tenn. I know Middle Tenn. is not a great team, but they did put up 42 points against then ranked #8 Louisville. The fact is LSU's D looks like a NFL team D.

I would have them as #1 right now. I can understand LSU fans and Florida fans thinking they are #1. There sure look to be alot of very good teams this year. Even add Oklahoma to the mix. The good news is that by the end of the season there should be a clear #1 and probbly #2.

I think Florida has been impressive enough, and are the defending champion, so they should be number 1 until someone knocks them off. Nebraska sucks, so beating them means nothing to me. If they go through the pac ten undefeated, then I will be a believer, but until then, they are lumped together with all the other unbeatens.

By beating a ranked team like Nebraska decisively in only three quarters of playing time for the first stringers, they proved their point

i think they did enough to deserve the #1 ranking. of course, there will be people out there who disagree.

after being down 7-10, the trojans put up 28 unsanswered points with a solid defense and run game. nebraska only put up their points when the game was clearly put away.
