I have yet to figure that out. I love watching birds, and when I've had feeders up, I've always been careful to "catch" the hulls hulls and droppings in some way. If I made a mess that others had to deal with, or if the BIRDS made a mess, I could see that it would be a problem, but as far as I can tell, they just don't seem to like the feeders themselves. Maybe they're just cranky?? In any case, I'm lucky enough now to live in a place where there are lots of birds, lots of blackberry brambles, trees, and ferns, and NO downstairs neighbor, and I can feed to my heart's content. This morning, I've already had a song sparrow, about a half-dozen spotted towhees, a Steller's jay, and innumerable black-capped chickadees show up, along with a Pacific grey squirrel (I feed them a bit too), and a few chipmunks - a good day, and it's only 9:45 a.m.!!
Happy feeding!

Due to media coverage, it could be because people are beginning to associate birds with the transmission of West Nile virus. Their fears are unfounded. Mosquitoes vector WNV.
Fill your feeders, provide the birds with fresh, clean water, and enjoy your feathered friends for many years to come.
Don't forget the hummingbird feeders, if you live in a region that is frequented by hummers.
I sincerely hope this helps.

Neighbors don't like the mess and the vermin bird feeders attract. As long as you keep the ground tidy under the feeders they won't attract rats.
I don't like it when people put out stale bread. My dog lunges for it and he tries to eat it. I never know if it's just bread, bread with insects or bread spread with something that went rancid.
Someone in my neighborhood puts out mounds of bread and meat for the foxes. They're just fooling themselves. They're feeding rats or killing foxes with food poisoning.
We just have a fountain with clean water. Our yard is full of birds. They eat all our garden pests.

Because it draws the birds in and many birds will eat the fruit on the neighbors trees. My neighbor does a lot of canning and she has mentioned to me about the many birds that now come and eat her peaches and grapes. She's not mad about it and she did not ask that I remove them.

Your best bet would be to put some baited group traps up. They catch about 12-15 at a time depending on the size. Then you submerge the trap in a bucket of water to drown them. I would stay away from poison or anything like that. You don't want them eating that stuff and dying in your walls. I would definitely get on the horn with your local board of health. You could also call an exterminator to do a perimeter treatment to keep them off your property and out of your home.

Many times, pigeons are attracted to feeders. They are messy birds that no one really likes unless they're seen in a park somewhere. Also, cats stalk feeders and bring their
" gifts" to their owners. Many owners don't like this grisly gift.

They are mean-spirited people who are only concerned to feed their own guts and never mind if the birds that help their gardens grow (!) starve. - They make other excuses, but that is the real reason.
