You need other links for people whose PC not able to access TV video, or whose contrast etc. get black screen ... I suggest "The Perfect Day" by Glenn Beck.

Evidence that an attack on our schools is in near future
* Internet Chatter
* Training Videos Confiscated In Terrorist Raids In Iraq and Afghanistan
* 17 Missing School Buses in Houston
* Stolen School Radios In The Northwest
* Information provided by detainees at Guantanamo
* Arrests In Florida of 2 Middle Eastern Men Who Boarded A Public School Bus
* Reports of individuals surveiling schools from various locations around the county.

The reality is that "national security" investments are like if you were to drive your car by looking in your rear view mirror and never look forwards.

There has been a problem with occasional violence between kids in school, so have one or two security guards patroling the premesis, that can be called to a scene of trouble. Less security than a bank, and you know how often they get stormed by armed gangs of robbers. Bank security only slows down a bank robbery in hopes that the police reinformcements can arrive in time.

There has been a problem with kids bringing guns and knives to school, so metal detectors are placed on the doors.

There is credible intelligence chatter that terrorists plan to storm a school by force of arms, hold all the children hostage, kill one an hour unless demands are met, like they did very successfully in Russia. Oh treat that as science fiction in bad taste, because it has not yet happened in America, except unless you count mentally ill kids like Columbine etc.

In the past, schools had drills what to do in case of a nuclear attack from the Soviet Unbion.

In the present day, schools have, or should halve, drills what to do in case of fire, earthquake, bad weather.

I do not believe they are having drills what to do in case of an armed assault on the building & grounds.

I think maybe as important as organizing different kinds of evacuations (we don't want the kids lined up outside the building in a target rich environment for snipers) is making sure there are alternate ways to inform law enforcement of the severity of the threat.

We saw from the coverage of 9/11 and the investigations that when stewardesses on the hijacked planes called American Airlines and identified themselves correctly as what stewardess aboard what plane that had been hijacked by passengers in which seats ... there was a high "Duh" factor on the ground.
* they had a hard time grasping what they were being told
* they asked to have the same info repeated many times
* they still had trouble grasping reality
* it took them so long to inform FAA or USAF that the others figured it out 15-30 minutes later, after the stewardesses had spelled out all the details

When the wife of one of the passengers on flight 93 got the news from her husband, she then called 911. She was repeatedly put on hold, transferred, and the FBI agent she talked with was unprepared to believe this call was about ANOTHER hijacked plane, in addition to the one that hit the Pentagon, the two that hit WTC, that this was still in the air, not yet to its target.

This "Duh" factor needs resolution, if we are going to be effective in protecting the nation effectively in future attacks. It may not be solveable through business as usual in Washington DC. I was rereading about Pearl Harbor. Washingtont DC was told long in advance that the attack was coming, thanks to military intelligence from a friendly nation, but our leaders then thought it was science fiction, because of the "Duh" factor ... they just could not believe it until it happened.

What's needed is for THE PEOPLE to get involved in threat evaluation ... what is the risk that
* terrorists will poison our food supplies
* terrorists will plant bombs in shopping malls
* terrorists will attack our schools
* terrorists will cut the bridges across Mississipi to sabotage our economy
* terrorists will put anthrax in a crop duster and fly over a major city
* terrorists will setoff a dirty bomb in Chicago
* there's a long list of fears

We the people need to learn how to evaluate what is the risk of each, and what needs to be done to reduce the risk, and are our leaders doing so, and if not, what is our responsibility to get them to do so.

Sure. Put the burden on the school districts. When it comes to the possibility of multiple attacks on shopping malls, put the burden on the mall security force.
We all have a role in identifying and rooting out terrorists before they attack. If you see something, say something. Be aware of your own surroundings and teach your children the same. We are at war! There are people out there who want to kill us. They gather in small cells, live in an apartment called a "Beyit Al Shuhada" (Martyr's House) and plot the next attack. That's reality. So, I'm not going to bother my local school district at all. I'm going to keep an eye out for the Salafist Jihadists in every place I go each day and alert the authorities if I see something suspicious.
