Try those Hav-a-Hart live traps. The squirrel size does chipmunks too. It is open ended so they are not afraid of it and has bait with a trigger in the center. They walk in and touch the bait and the two open ends snap closed. Then you take the trap 3 miles away and open it so they run out. It is easy, clean, and not gory since the chipmunks are released live but not where you live.

If I had to guess I would say you have dozens of chipmunks not one. If you look carefully you will find their next holes all over your yard.

BTW our neighborhood has a lot of feral cats that are always prowling around and looking for things to kill. They just go right past chipmunks and have never harmed one - lots of dead bird remains show up on driveway but never a dead chipmunk. So don't count on cats to help with this problem.

Dogs often dig holes because they are bored. Make sure you have interesting doggy toys for her to play with, like a Kong toy or the balls you fill with treats and the dog has to roll it around to get the treats out. Also, she is at a very active age, be sure she is getting a lot of exercise, long walks, fetch that kind of thing. If she is tired, she will be less likely to dig. The person who said to put the dog's poop in the hole is right, the dog won't dig in that hole again, but unfortunately, she will still dig.

I would take a mouse trap (spring type are cheapest, but for the liberal fools on here I will mention the box type that have a swinging door on them, the door swings shut and the critter cant get back out) and just use sun flower seeds and some peanut butter for your bait.

if you want the target practice you could use a pellet gun, but the problem with that is you have to be there when he comes out of hiding and be a half way decent shot with it.

i'm sorry to hear about your " little" problem, since weapons of mass destruction are probably not practical in this situation , and poison runs the risk of killing something Else that has the poor luck of being int the wrong place at the wrong time( ie. like the neighbours cat), i suggest setting a small trap. hopefully it doesn't turn into a bad episode of caddyshack! good luck!

try a rat trap a little biger then a mouse trap might work i would then ask a pet store what kind of food a chipmunk likes. however i would not tell them the reason you need to know as they may not give you the info. tell them you like the little guy and want to give hima treat lol. hope it works out for ya

WHEN YOU FIGURE OUT THE MAIN HOLE THE CHIPMUNK IS USING START BY GOING AROUND AND FILLING IN ANY OTHER ENTRANCES WITH SMALL ROCKS OR PIECES OF CONCRETE. PUSH A WATER HOSE DOWN THE HOLE AND TURN ON THE WATER. THEY WILL EITHER DIE BY LACK OF ESCAPE ROUTE OR TRY AND COME OUT THE HOLE YOU HAVE THE HOSE IN. BY DOING THIS YOU CAN STEP ON IT OR SHOOT IT AND THE PROBLEM IS DONE.

I agree with the hav-a-hart traps. We used them to catch a bunch of rats that were burrowing around in our barn. Also a bigger one for an opossum, but that one caught our cats occasionally.

Release the creature at least several miles from your house.

In the chipmunks ACTIVE hole put a half dozen moth balls in the hole...repeat this in his new holes and eventually he will leave the area.
