Milwaukee makes a drill that has a switch on it that has hammer action as well as running normal. You want to find a drill that will hammer if you are going into brick.

You will need different bits for going into brick or concrete. masonry bits work for that.

Everything else works pretty much the same. Corded drills are nice if you are going into concrete as you don't have to change the battery, but cordless drills are hard to find with hammer action.

I like the Milwaukee for that price.

== a 1/2 inch drill chuck will be what you look for 1st and then the brand name ... and those previous list above are all excellent suggestions === a 1/2 drill will have a heavier shaft and higher amperage from the motor ... shop the hardware giants online and go to Sears and talk to the tools dude ... sometimes the most expensive is not always the best for some jobs ... most of my tools are Craftsman and they have worked fine for years ... get a good extension cord to go with that new drill and buy a 14/3 wire == 14 gauge wire and a ground ...

Get one that does everything. Has variable speed and hammer action. Does it need to be rechargeable for those awkward to reach places? Also get one that comes with loads of drill bits. Look out for the sales. We got ours from B&Q and paid less than half price It came with a free corded drill as well. They do similar in Argos page 1117 item no.13 for £49.99.(The cordless one sells for this much on its own) They both have good watts and comes with a 12 month guarantee. So any problems you just take it back with the receipt and get another one! Hope this helps.

For home use go with cordless unless you will need to go into concrete. It is easier, portable... well, it is a better tool. I know of very few companies that will offer you a cordless in your price range. Try to go with 18V or better. More power, more battery life. Try Ryobi, Black and Decker, Fire Storm. The professional tools like DeWalt, Makita, Rigid etc will be well out of your price range. I am hoping someone else can help you with where to go as I am on the other side of the ocean. Good Luck!

BnQ is your best bet. Ryobi or Bosch green range is more than adequate for d.i.y. Buy a cordless nothing less than 14.v if you can stretch to 18.v than so much the better, most come with a spare battery and are charged within the hour.

I am trade so don't normally go for Black & Decker, though I received a powerstorm 18v cordless as a present, had it 2 years, had a spare battery and I screwed 6" screws into wood, countless wall plugs, and used it to mix all the dry wall adhesive and finish plaster for the whole ground floor of my house and lots more, finally killed it (brushes went) mixing plaster, but have to say, overall, for £90 it was brilliant.

for most diy projects you can use a cordless drill/driver. if possible look for one with a hammer action. this will help when drilling into brickwork.. if you want a half decent one I'd be looking to spend about a £100.00, although you should be able to pick one up for around £60.00. good luck.
try b&q they have a very large assortment.

the drill bit determines wether u use your drill on wood, metal, masonary .. not the drill .. (the hammer function is for masonary)

www.screwfix.co.uk Do an excellent range of drills. I would go for an 18v rechargeable. I have had mine for years and it drills through concrete. Get on with a spare battery.
