Because they do not believe in freedom. With freedom comes Responsibility. Liberals believe I am not smart enough to choose which kinds of guns I should be able to buy so they spend millions to come up with pointless gun control laws. They feel I need a federal funded agency (read more taxes) to tell me. Liberals feel we all live in a national village and we should all help each other, with out realizing that I am doing just fine on my own since I work hard. They can not answer me how I am being helped by having my taxes raised for more welfare, WIC and other programs for people who refuse to accept responsibility, or just work. Also if personal responsibility were important to liberals then their holy grail of affirmative action would be destroyed. Liberals believe if at first everyone can not succeed then lower the standards.

Strange that people always get it wrong .
Liberals are concerned that people are being abused by a handful of people making the rules and limiting opportunities .
If a doctor charged a man 3 million dollars for a heart operation and another he did for $10.00 for a homeless man you would complain .
Why should a rich man have to pay so much and the poor man almost nothing .
The answer is the poor man was willing to give everything he had to the doctor to live . He might have even offered to wash his windows or help him with anything he could .
The rich man was willing to give him what he felt was a proper fee for services .
How can you place a price on life .
What doctors should be taught is to bill 10% of a persons wealth .
This is the responsible thing to do .

The liberals (most of them) seem to believe that they don't have to do anything but make laws requiring the government to take care of them; they want to get free health care for all, get benefits without working for them, get more money from the ones who have more and evenly distribute it among those who have less. People who have earned a decent living through hard work very often will have a lot more, for which I feel they are entitled. The rich are taxed at a very high rate anyway but the liberals would have them being taxed at an even higher rate thus, punishing them for achieving. That doesn't make sense to me. The liberals love taking rights away; God is not to be talked about or mentioned in the school and they would even be happier to have "in God we Trust" taken off the money; they would love to remove The Ten Commandments from sight whenever that is possible; they don't like Christians or their values; they don't believe in the citizens right to have and bear arms for their own protection; would much prefer to take all guns from honest citizens who abide by all of the laws; they are more concerned with making our Country into a socialist nation. I don't get it and certainly don't support it. The liberals also support giving away services to the illegal immigrants; they don't worry about giving them social security benefits and free health care, driver's licenses, low income housing, etc. when they are here ILLEGALLY. They don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but put our lives in jeopardy and make our taxes higher by wanting to provide so much to so many who don't deserve to have the rights that many of us can't get or afford. It is maddening!!

Economc policies come from the top. Moralising at the poor - is just complete bollocks.
How will we ever know if economic policies are failing - if we simply blame the people who they are affecting most?
My country made millions upon millions unemployed to control inflation, because the chancellor actually needed lots and lots of poverty, to make the currency more valuable...so the city could use it to trade.
How in the name of god...is this the unemployed persons fault?
There was also a show on tv recently... whereby they took ten unemployed "scumbags"( as conservatives call them)...gave them the slightest job opportunity and every single person took it with both hands.
Morality doesn't cure poverty, it simply justifies it, in poverty dependant economic systems.

More of the framed responses of the right. Continue repeating the clap trap of liberals not for personal responsibility. Do you want to explain to a single mother about personal responsibility? I also wonder why if the right is so into personal responsibility why they don't let their people take personal responsibility for what crimes they commit instead of blind gang support for them only because they have R beside their name.

Here's Webtser's definitions:
LIBERALISM: "A political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of man, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberites."
CONSERVATISM: "A political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions, and preferring gradual development to abrupt change."
I don't know a 'liberal' who doesn't want social stability. I don't know a 'conservative' who doesn't want his (or her) political and civil liberties protected. So, it sounds to me like there's a little bit of BOTH in most of us!
We wall want the same thing: government entitlements. Conservatives believe liberals want welfare for single mothers trying to raise three kids after the father has abandoned them.
Liberals believe conservatives want welfare in the form of corporate hand-out, grants and tax advantages.
We would be best to heed the observations of Alexander Tyler, who said: "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years."
If we continue with runaway war spending, government hand outs to conservatives and liberals [most of whom don't even understand the true meanings of the 'labels' they've artificially applied to themselves] and fraudulent economic waste, this nation will follow in the footsteps of the great Greek and Roman empires - sooner rather than later. -RKO- 09/16/07

As a liberal, I strongly believe in personal responsibility. But I'm educated enough to realize that not everyone is created equal, not everyone is born into wealth and not everyone is capable of taking care of themselves. You're making a very small world for yourself if that's what you believe
I'm an owner of a successful business and I consider personal responsibility an extremely important part of running my business. Quit generalizing and get out and meet others with opinions that differ from yours. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Actually, Liberals do believe in personal responsibility. They are taking Bush to task for going to war under false pretenses. This war has killed nearly 4,000 U.S. Soldiers, and injured 25,000 more. This war has killed more than 265,000 Iraqi Civilians.
I think you have the question wrong, it should be phrased, why hasn't the Bush Administration shown more personal responsibility, and why has he repeatedly lied to the American People?

you're right, we should believe in personal responsibility.
eliminate the fda!
come to think of it, the military doesn't do much for personal responsibility, does it? why should someone else fight for you? take care of yourself!
the same goes for the police. why should someone else be responsible for what happens to you?
there are gaps in your logic.
