I have a sony vaio PCG-GR170K. I bought a dynex PCI card but it did not work. I want to be able to go to Starbucks, at home with my router or any coffee shop and use their wireless internet. Should I still go for a PCI card or a USB?

This one works great. When signal is low, you can use the USB extension cable so you can position the adapter for best signal.

What you need is a wireless pcmcia pc card network adapter or a wireless USB network adapter. If this the "PCI" card that you tried then it should have worked.

So why didn't it work?
Well if your laptop still has Windows 2000 be sure that you have the most current service pack installed. Or better yet, upgrade/install Windows XP with SP2 as it has better wireless support than W2000.
With either option you will still need to set up the wireless adapter. If using W2000 this website can help.

i'm no longer accustomed to verizion on the spot provider. I definitely have cable modem and that i exploit a linksys on the spot router I have been given for $50 on sale, which fits properly. I definitely have computing gadget connected this style, a working laptop or computing gadget, an xbox, my bro-in regulation's occasional computing gadget, and a wii proportion the relationship. this is a reasonably ordinary setup. on occasion an interruption in ability journeys it up and that i'd desire to unplug and replug the router to resync it to the modem. i could wager if a router would not paintings that verizon has recommendations (which would be high priced) on your probelm.

Your best bet would be a PC Card also known as PCMCIA card. A PCI card is for desktop computers. I suggest you go with a brand name card such as linksys, netgear or 3COM..

hey there, you will need either an usb wifi card, or an pci wifi card, i prefer pci wifi card , because you just slide it in there and u can barely see it, and its more powerful, i found one for you at a great price!!!
