i was just wondering is it ok to take an air compressor and blow out the dust of the xbox or will it damage something, if it is ok should i hold it far away and give it short bursts of air?

A regular compressor from someone's workshop might be a tad overkill for this. Go to a computer store, and ask for a can of compressed air. These are used for cleaning computers. It's a can about the size of a big can of soup, with a nozzle and spray trigger. It should be fine for this.

One warning, though - the gas comes out VERY cold, and if you spray it on yourself, you could get a cold injury, like frostbite. READ THE DIRECTIONS AND FOLLOW THEM, or risk being considered a bonehead by the folks at the Emergency Room.

The only problem with doing this is that to have it be truly effective you would have to open the case, which would void the warranty. Microsoft just recently extended all system warranties to an unprecedented 3 years from date of purchase, which really comes in handy after you get red ringed during Halo 3.

But if voiding your warranty is your cup of tea, then opening the system so that you can see what you're doing more effectively is the way to go, just be sure to avoid physically touching the nozzle to the parts. (If you're using compressed air canisters, the air at the nozzle is hazardously cold, so back up an inch or two.)

Depending on the strength of your compressor and the nozzle your using, the air could do damage to the internals. I would just go buy a can of air at Staples or something and leave the compressor for inflating tires and running pneumatic tools.

send it into microsoft and just get it repaired dont do the stupid noobish thing of wrapping towels that is guaranteed to damage your console more than fixing it. If you have no warreny get you hands dirty and open the console and apply a new layer of thermal paste between the GPU and the CPU's heatsink, purposefully overheat the console (baking the 360) and then let it cool down for an hour or so. Hopefully this helps.

i wouldnt want to chance it, you would be better off to get a can of compressed air....sometime water will come out of a air compressor and that wouldnt be good to go into your xbox.
