Ok, my mum and i have been looking for white or cream buttons for her top she has knitted. Mum is very crafty in her work and likes her items to be of good quality and is very fussy as to her buttons, they have to be right. She enters nearly all her items she makes into compititions and yes she WINS.
I know i sound big headed but she does and i am proud of it, she has had people asking to buy my christening gown and shawl she made for her grandchild. NO WAY was her answer.
Please can anyone tell us where to get really pretty buttons from.
Thanks for your help, you've never let me down.

Thanks for the answers so far but mum really does not want to make her own buttons. Any sites or places you could recomend would be gratefully received.

Try looking up Giggle Buttons on your search engine or Nicki Tervo designs. They are both Australian businesses that do some of the craft shows. Nicki is based in Queensland I think and I'm not sure where Sandra from Giggle Buttons is from.
Hope this helps.

good deal on your mum's work!!

I get all my buttons for my sewing, weaving and knitting projects from one of the better fabric stores.

Everytime I see some buttons I like, I purchase them then work a project around them.

maybe those people would want your mum to make them a christening dress and shawl?? tell her to make the cost equivalent to the amount of work going in to it. Our talents are worth the cost to some people.

If she is ever interested in making her own buttons (any size, shape, color, pattern, as well as "faux" opal, jade, metal, wood, etc., etc.) from polymer clay, have her check out this page:
http://glassattic.com/polymer/buttons.htm

Many knitters, sewers, and even quilters make their own buttons this way so they can have *exactly* what they want, in the size and shape, etc., they need.
The level of sophistication and "look" can go from very simple all the way up to extremely refined, etc...just depends on choices and the abilities of the maker.

Button Lady (in UK) has a website, but I don't have the right address to hand. The magazine Ornament may have links to nice sites. I don't know if the Button Queen in London still exists, but it may be worth while exploring.

Maybe your mum should make her own buttons from polymer clay , or buy wooden ones and paint them the color that she wants.

I know a lady who goes to High CLass DEPT. store and snips them off designer clothing. probably something you shouldn't or wouldn't want to do!
