Thucydides gave an answer to that a long time ago: "The strong do as they can, and the weak suffer as they must."

Thanks for sharing this video. I think it makes good points about the media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. but I think it is equally applicable to the news coverage in the US about the occupation of Iraq. For example:

- What is being left out of the story is the fact that an agressor is occupying a foreign territory without international justification.

- That when a reporter or average person protests against the occupation, they are accused of being unpatriotic (or anti-semite.) They are in unfair ways discredited.

- Over use of the unpatriotic or anti-semite word devalues the word and the word become legitimate, providing cover for true evils.

- Media fails to cover stories that are in conflict with the government version of the events. Major protest stories are not covered at all in major media.

- Protestors are met with a deafening chorus of accusations, slanderous, and lying assertions.

To answer your question about why, here is my belief:

Media outlets are not isolated from the business side. A major goal is to increase ratings, decrease costs, and avoid risky stories that could result in attacks to the news department credibility. It's safer to report on stories that are already out there. Many times stories are repeated without proper vetting because they are reported by another major media outlet.

In short, editors live in fear of losing their jobs. They cannot push a story that will be discredited by powerful government efforts. It safer, easier, and cheaper to stay in the mainstream and not break a story that could break their career.

It's also scary when you look at how homogenous the stories are. They never say this is an occupation, they say it is a war. They always use the same terminology over and over again, often disparaging to the 'enemy'. They talk about a 'Patriot Act' which is nothing more than the elimination of liberties and civil rights. It's anything but patriotic. This is the worst kind of double speak, spin, and distortion of the truth.

To get to the truth, you must dig deep and think. Major media should be considered nothing more than propaganda.

The international community resembles a jungle today, where the 'survival of the most fit' or rather "the strongest" species and such golden rules as "he who has the gold makes the rules" apply at it perfectly well.

PS: you have got some very nice answers to your excellent question, which makes judging a tough task I would say.

The Jews have a lot of control in the government and with the media and for them to continue that occupation is ridiculous and terrible .President Carter wrote a book about the truth and he was slandered and called anti Jew. which he is not.
I feel for those Palestinians and what they have to endure.I pray for them. the Jews have a right to a state, and a right to defend themselfs.but this is a travesty what they do to those people every day.i have cared about there plight for many years.if they were to leave there neighbours alone they might grow powerful enough to actually do Israel great harm.so of course they must keep them down.as many countrys around them as they can.so they can feel safe

They have an agenda to condition our thoughts, and in doing so, they provide half-truths, and omissions. When these tactics don't work, they use criticism to influence your opinion. When you follow the money trail, the power sought, and advantage they receive in spreading the "news" the answer is clear.

We all have to be wary of what we see on TV. To give you an example:

I was watching the news and it was showing the death of a young Palestinian. I was upset and watched in silence with two of my friends, as the boy's parents wept and carried their son on a stretcher, telling the reporter how he died.

Then one of my friends suddenly pointed at the screen and shouted. And sure enough, the 'dead' boy opened his eyes, looked around and then shut them again!!!

This particular news clip has been covered in many publications including 'Honest Reporting' and in addition my friend has it on video.

So don't always believe what you watch.
