A working women has a lot of burden,to take care of her home, her work, her family. So I would say that if a women is well-off,she shouldn't do a job, instead she can do some jobs like giving tuitions, selling handicraft articles etc. from her own house.

should women work in india?
I live in India. We need to consider the following factors:
(1) Unlike developed countries, the unemployment rate is severe in countries like India. In the current social setup, it is unthinkable that a working woman will marry a stay at home guy. Hence there will be larger social disparity when the available jobs are shared. Some families will have both the partners earning, while majority will have no job.
(2) Unlike developed countries, the main development efforts as well as availability of jobs in India are not service oriented. Though women are equal or even better than men in service oriented jobs, the menstruation, emotional makeup, child bearing and lack of ability to work in odd hours will cause severe reduction in productivity of women, if they are employed in the assembly line/industrial production environments.
I think keep in mind these two factors, government or social workers need not campaign towards better share of jobs for women in India at the present point in time. But I do not regard there is any need to actively discourage women taking up jobs. When the time is right I am sure Indian women will have an equal share of jobs. I hope this happen in 2025.

I don't get one simple reason why women should not work. Women today are equal to men in all aspects. They are in every field like men intellectual and hardworking. In a country like India where most of women are discouraged of their capabilities even today ( e.g. Chak De India - girls hockey team)by men it is a point for the women to prove that they can equally compete and do things as good as a man can. IT gives an equal opportunity & equal status for both the genders in the society.
I hope I am answering your question because on a second thought that women should work overseas too which they are doing anyway.

If she so chooses to work then why should any-one stop her??
I dont know what percentage of the female population works in India, but here in England more and more women choose to.
Could be a variety of reasons too:
Balance of income towards the house/ contributing to it.
Children are grown up or have moved away to college, working may fill that emptyness too.
A sense of some financial freedom
To share her many talents
Contribute towards the economy.
To support herself it there isn't anyone supporting her.
....just some views that comes to my mind anyway. Its a choice..if she feels that she's in a position to go out and work like the rest of us, then why not???....if she's happy to be supported and has a good partner who's happy to care for her financially too or for reasons doesnt want her to be working...then good on that person too.
Just like any other country in the world...women should have the freedom to work.

if men could only just be a little less controling I would say , Don't screw up your economy by complicating things ,,, but men can't help themselves , they will even go to war to prove who is boss , so women will have to make this dissission on their own , But I recomend trying to get men to be more understanding of the trials that women face without destroying the whole economical story that they will only have as a memory if women deside to fight the existing system ,, work is not all its cracked up to be for most only the lucky get the job they realy like ..only the luckey .. but I say What ever

In southern India, where women are drastically less literate and employed, the population is exorbitantly high and there isn't enough room or resources for the larger families. If those women could work, they would have less time to produce all those babies, and the overcrowding would improve.

Times have changed and the fact is that we have women rubbing shoulders with men in every field and one can say performing better than men too.
The contribution of working women is also another great reason for the growth of our economy.
