Or do you need some kind of noise other than nature around you most or all of the time? I used to be that way, but have found that since I'm getting older I enjoy comparative quiet. (not that children playing, a baby crying,or a dog barking bother me, because I enjoy hearing them) Opinions, please, and thanks.

I've noticed that I have more need for quiet time than I used to.
Usually my hubby who's also retired, will have either the radio
or TV on. So today when he chose to re read from an interes-
ting history book, he was quiet until he wanted to read me
passages. So I had alot of undesturbed time, which was very
nice with no noise blaring.
I find I have more interest in the simple things around me
now. I have the time to enjoy watching little birds eat birdseed
and drink and splash in the bird bath. Also the squirrels that
we feed, come down from the trees and climb into the nut box
and run through the tree branches and play 'tag'. And our
two Chihuahuas like to run out and try to catch them which
helps them to burn off energy, which they have an abundance
of.
I rarely watch TV anymore. It has to be something of special
interest before I get off the computer in the evening. I do alot
of searches and I have more interest in learning now, on
many topics, than I did when I was forced to in school. I feel
like a sponge at times, wanting to learn more.

I love listening to the silence. Right now there is no noise going on except the dryer is running. In an hour or so I'm turning on the Pittsburgh Steeler's football game though.Children playing does not bother me as long as they are playing and not fighting. Crying babies doesn't bother me, because they cry and it's not always that anything is wrong. Same with dogs, dogs bark because that's what dogs do. Noise that does bother me is cars racing down this posted 25 mph street at 60 mph. Adults fighting on the sidewalk across the street. The sound of a fire truck or an ambulance bothers me because it means someone is in trouble.

I've always appreciated some down time with a little silence. I'm not a fan of having the tv or radio on all the time, though I know some people who come straight home, turn on the tv and don't turn it off until they go to bed. I enjoy reading a lot and don't like the distractions. I'm in my 30s and have always been like this - I don't think it's an age or family thing, at least in my case.

Now the computer? That's a different story... :-)

Only within the past 5 years or so have I gained a tremendous appreciation for quiet... And for the sole reason that I cannot think clearly when I am pelted with music or background TV running. I am sure I was always like this, and I suspect that most are, we just don't realize it until far too late in life. I wonder how much I could have accomplished had I not been "multitasking" all these years. hHmmmmmmmm

On occasion, I will play music while doing housework, but only if I am alone. Other than that, I work in silence, except to converse with my cats or hubby, who might be in the next room reading the paper or watching the box.

I'm very much in tune with normal neighborhood noises -- so are the cats. They will ignore the sirens unless they have a particularly mournful wail, then they run to the window. (We live near a hospital and a fire station.)

The sound is always off on the computer unless someone sends an e-mail that requires sound.

Yes, I do enjoy listening to the quiet, But I find recently, I have
not been doing so as much as I use to, and intend to get back
in that realmn as much as I welcomed silence a few months ago. It must be I think this time of year comes with a hush,
that my mind recalls, the magic of autumn to take stock in what was before the busy actitives of summer.

When my three grandsons are in school I BASK in the silence!

But then I also enjoy their laughter when they are home. The one thing I find I can do without entirely is their bickering between themselves. We never did that sort of thing when I was a kid...I can remember playing quietly for hours with my siblings.

As to music...I find that I have to be in the mood. I haven't listened to radio in years. And TV gets turned on only when the boys are home.

(I don't want to confuse you, so will give you a bit of background...I live in a multigenerational house which I own, with my two daughters, the youngest's boyfriend of five years, and my three grandsons--the oldest belonging to my oldest daughter, and the other two belonging to my youngest daughter. It is a good deal for all of us--I get help paying the bills to keep this old house afloat. They get more spending money from their salaries than they would if they lived on their own, plus a built-in babysitter. And the boys have someone always available to look after them, while having a huge yard to play in and neighbourhood kids to play outdoors with. We have had our differences, but most days are a pleasure. I highly recommend this mode of living to other seniors my age who may be in the same circumstances.)

Radio is only on in the car, never in the house, T.V. comes on for Jeopardy and usually it is off the rest of the night..and never on during the day..so I guess I prefer the sound of silence. I do enjoy the birds and noisy squirrels and kids playing in the park behind my house.

I definitely have in basic terms neglected one televised or one broadcasted pastime, if i'm no longer on the Ballpark, in 3 seasons of Rangers baseball. Win or lose, i'm a fan by way of and by way of. that's why this season is so interesting and exciting to witness. each and every pitch, each and every hit is historic past interior the making. there is not any way, in need of death, that i could ever omit Rangers baseball on television or the radio.

I don't get to do it very often as I work at the local school and take care of my parents too. But when I can I love to sit in my porch swing on my screened in porch and enjoy the great outdoor life. Listening to and watching the birds, crickets, frogs and other wildlife.
