I think that the preseason gives absolutely no indication as to how well a team will perform when the regular season starts. Yes, it's useful in judging young talent, exploring line combinations, and having players get used to game situations, but as to how good the team actually is, one doesn't find out until the first game of the season. So my question is, why do people even go and watch, unless there's a young superstar participating that no one has ever seen before in the NHL, like Kyle Turris. Other than that, I don't know why people would go to preseason games; the result doesn't mean anything.

The Montreal Canadiens had a preseason record of 1-6-1 in September of 1976, 80 games later they were 60-8-12.
The year Toronto finished last and drafted Wendel Clark, they only lost once in the pre-season.
The whole purpose of these games (aside from making money for each team) is to see how players perform with one another. Can a Patrick Kane and Jonathon Toews mesh with Martin Havlat, or will they do better with Sergei Samsonov? Can Mathieu Schnedier pair well with Chris Pronger...or does he pair well with Francois Beauchemin.
That is the biggest purpose of pre-season games

Well, it certainly won't have any effect on standings. If a teamloses all preseason games, that may mean the lines aren't working well enough together. Or the coach was just giving some young guys a chance to show their skills. I don' think it's much of a concern unless the lineup of the preseason game is the same as the one for opening night. If the team wins all their preseason games, I guess they'll have more confidence on opeing night and it's always good when you're off to a good start.

Preseason is for assessment. maximum communities choose to make certain how gamers react in game circumstances. they intend to make beneficial that as quickly as they whittle down their rosters they are keeping the final gamers and dropping those that have the least probabilities of starting to be a means. Indy has had a dropping preseason record the final 2 years, yet they have gained purely approximately all of their familiar season video games and final year have been the final champions. For communities that have a dropping custom, coming up some self belief by using prevailing interior the preseason ought to help particularly. although, maximum coaches are extra attracted to prevailing that establishing familiar season game and don't cost preseason wins very lots. i do no longer think of there is lots correlation between preseason wins and familiar season wins.

if they lose all it will definitely cause the coaching staff to alter their game plan some.. they dont really matter to a degree.. they are primarily for the newer guys fighting for a spot as well as seeing which deeper lines pair up well..here in nashville , they have said todays game with columbus will include 9 or so nhl veterans.. sort of a routine-unroutine match-up if that makes any sense.. these are mostly viable in judging a teams chemistry and conditioning, but not a real benchmark for classifying them as a cup contender or not.. these games matter to the fans because of the anticipation and team spirit..
simply put, these are practice games with unrealistic and unpredictable pairings and outcomes... there fun for the fans and give coaches a general consensus of what they have in the cupboard.. what they are not is a basis for determining who are the premier clubs... the colts analogy above is a good one and can be used comparitavely to hockey as well.. afterall, each team usually only plays 3 or 4 teams during preseason and thats just not enough substance IMO...
they just give direction for a club and give us fans a long overdue relief from the offseason... if they win them all--great.. that gives confidence and bragging rights --TEMPORARILY.. still doesnt mean they will be contenders but its nice to win all you can obviously..

preseason is just that: preseason.
For the top guys, it's really just a few games to pass the time till the real season starts.
But for the guys fighting for a job, they're gonna give it their all in order to impress the coach, and the fans.
Most of the time, the team with better depth will win preseason games
So the main reason to pay attention to preseason is to watch the guys on the 3rd and 4th line who are really pushing themselves to get that job

Pre-season has NO impact on the regular season aside of deciding which fringe players make the team, unless some superstar hurts himself. Injuries are the biggest concern in the pre-season. Nothing else means squat.

no because in preseason the regular players are in for the first period and the after that the young guys are put in to see how they will perform. and plus it also has no meaning at all in pts or standings

Preseason doesn't matter at all. Starters play one or 2 series. 3rd stringers and players that will be cut get all the playing time. Tomlinson doesn't even play in the preseason. No weight should be given to preseason results.

the final score doesn't matter much at all unless your head coach manages the game terribly. As long as the starters don't completely suck there is no need to worry. The Colts went 0-4 last pre season en route to the Superbowl.
was this under hockey? oops

Not really...
These games have no value and are only an evaluation tool.
That being said most teams use their full roster in the last game and it is a good sign if they win.
