My mom is 50 years old heavy chain-smoking woman for years. She was on her 3 packs a day habit with no intense to quit or cut it down. In a recent years she started to smoke cigars on a daily purpose, smoking a lot of cigars every day, she is inhaling smoke very deeply and says that she likes big smoke that fills her inside. I noticed that she often feels dizzy and constantly out of breath, but she says she is fine. She is always coughing a lot very hard. Is it a big problem?

She could very well have developed COPD from her years of smoking, which is causing her shortness of breath and coughing. She needs to see her doctor so this can be diagnosed and treated with an inhaler or nebulizer. The additonal smoking will only make her condition worse, if that is what it is. There is a thing called 'smokers cough' which typically hits a smoker first thing in the morning and they cough up whitish phlegm. She could be getting dizzy due to lack of oxygen in her bloodstream, which could be a secondary cause of COPD.

Is your mom under a lot of stress, she could be depressed or just addicted but she is not healthy (the coughing & dizziness are not normal). Can you get another adult to help you with your mom?
