In the UK they follow the national curriculum. Should be the same in America but by a state level probably.

Well in the US. they use state and county regulations. The state has general regulations and then the county and more for their specific county.

You can go here and this is all the states and their rules and regulations jus click boards of education.
http://www.studysphere.com/Site/Sphere_10431.html
then click on the one that says (state) board of education or sumthin around those terms.

Some states just go by counites (districts) so also look for that.

Along with that there are advance placement classes or GEM programs which students can get into which teach higher level curriculum.
They also go by grade level and school grade. So an advance student in 5th grade in an F school may be learning the same thing as an normal student in an A school. But the website i gave should give all the board of educations for all the counties

State government, local school boards, parents, and now the federal government have all set standards for how schools must be run. The courts have occasionally decided if the rules are legal. This mostly applies to public schools, but if private or parochial schools wish to qualify for any kind of financial help, they too must follow the guidelines. As for latest or best methods for teaching, there are several publications which are put out by and for educators. Check with the NEA and your local college which offers a degree in education.

in the United States, each state has counties (singular: county) except Louisiana has parishes. Each parish/county has its own school system (that's a lot of school systems), made up of network of schools for all ages. Each school system follows a curriculum of what to teach students, based on age and grade.

So say a student is in 8th grade. There will be a list of things that each one of his/her teachers MUST teach that student. Teachers have to follow the curriculum, but they can add in their own activities/lessons if they want, too, and all teachers have their own teaching styles.
