The only time the smile is positively genuine is when the person has no clue that their picture is being taken.

It is probably connected to a program which will probably measure the tension or relaxation in the muscles surrounding the mouth... Think about when you have had to give a fake smile versus when you gave a genuine smile...

Not with the pictures but that camera may be infrared sensitive. When a person tells lies he/she feels if he/she is under attack. So the eyes get more blood so as to increase the strength of eyes. You can tell because under infrared camera the eyes of a lying person are shown in pinkish or reddish colour.

I think all pictures except candid pics have staged smiles...
I mean like you could be genuinly happy and then someone just takes a picture that would make sense, but i know i smile when people tell me too when they are taking a pic of me...

You can tell if you know the person your photographing,a complete stranger would be a little harder to detect, although some fake smiles stick out like a sore thumb.

A lot of times I just sense something about a person-
if they are genuine or phony. There is something about
the eyes.

the Japanese never fail to amuse us, do they???
well, Ican only know if someone is smiling because he has to..you know, like he was on his way to the restroom and they stopped him to take his picture and he really wanted to get done with that as fast as possible...
just those kind of smiles.

That's very interesting in a culture which considers showing your teeth when you smile rude. How 'bout that.

I usually can. It's all in the eyes, and the body language is second.
