If you compare them Romney has a much stronger record on everything. He was a business executive, turned around the Olympics, was elected Governor of Mass and enacted conservative solutions there, etc. On the other hand Thompson was a lobbyist, mediocre 2 term senator with a lot of liberal positions, and of course was an actor.
If you look at their positions, Thompson is more to the left than Romney on issues like marriage and immigration. Romney has a huge war chest and a large organization, while Thompson has been having organizational troubles for the past year and has gone through at least 3 different campaign mangers.
Romney also has video clips of all his positions easily accessible on his website, while Thompson only gives vague generalizations about where he stands. Romney has gone to all the debates and answers direct questions from people
Thompson is also extremely boring with a dragging monotone voice, while Romney is exciting, energetic and leaves people feeling good

You're right, Romney has had the reponsibility of meeting budgets and managing large projects and has done well. All of the Presidents for the past 40 years have been either Governors or VP's before being elected to office.

1. Thompson is a more viable candidate.
2. Thompson has a longer voting record.
3. Thompson is a known conservative.
4. Thompson supports the Fair Tax. Romney clearly does not get it at all.

Actually both Thomson and Romney are pretty middle of the road candidates. Thomson's biggest weakness for me is the lack of any real positions. As you have said, he talks in sweeping generalities and never seems to answer a dircte question. I think he is banking on "independent" voters, trying to make himself out as the real right. He might actually pull it off. He will at least split some voters.

I wouldn't vote for either one of them. Neither one of them is Roy Moore (www.morallaw.org) and neither seems like someone who would solve the problems facing our nation. They talk much, but I don't think that either Romney or Thompson would end the war in Iraq on our terms, would really tackle the uncontrollable immigration, or work to protect the jobs and livelihood of ordinary Americans.

You have too look at them both objectively. They both have relatively mediocre political records, flip flopped on the issues for the sake of money and winning elections.

I like Romney, I think his views on iraq and his faith actually go against him in polls, pro war isn't popular, and mormanism isn't either with Christian conservatives.... but I think he'll have better standing closer to election time...

............while Romney is exciting, energetic and leaves people feeling good.
You are talking about 'Mitt' Romney, aren't you?
The 'smoothie'?
The one who 'supported' just about everything a year or two ago, but now doesn't?
Or didn't 'support' just about everything a year or two ago, but now does?
