i have to hold the letter down longer than usual before it comes up my child was pressing a bunch of stuff

Is it any letter or a specific one? I would try cleaning underneath the key(s). Try rebooting as well. I don't know of a keyboard setting that would cause a key to respond slow.
You can try going into the Control Panel, then keyboard, then hardware, then troubleshoot. That might help...

In that case you just have to go in Control Panel (Start =>Settings=>Control Panel) for keyboard settings to setup the repeat delay and rate and put them to short/fast. If that is a software problem, must be done like this, otherwise you might have to clean your keyboard. Next time put a password on your windows account.
