Newer vehicles have a sensor in the brake master cylinder to monitor the brake fluid level. When the brakes wear, more fluid is required to fill the calipers, so a low fluid warning will be seen.
Since low fluid level is normal when brakes wear down, don't just add fluid, or you will compound the necessary repairs by allowing the metal part of the linings to contact the rotors and wear them out. Check all the brake linings.

There are only a few things that cause that light to come on, first low fluid in the reservoir. DO NOT just top off the fluid, as your brake pads wear down, the fluid level goes down as well. Or the microswitch for your e-brake could be pressed, faulty, or shorted. I would take it to a local repair shop to have it checked.

All of these are good answers and make sure to listen to riddance's warning about topping off the fluid- not a good idea. You may have a leak. Usually it's just that the brakes need servicing. I also have an MPV and mine has done that when I've needed my brakes done.

Check the brakes.
They will tell you that you need brakes.
Tell them you want the old brake parts and that your dad is a retired mechanic, your brother is a mechanic,or your dad works for Bureau of Automotive Repair (in California). That will keep them more honest.

most likely your fluid level is low. Check it or have it checked asap. You may have a leaking wheel cylinder in the rear brakes. Look under the van at the rear wheels and see if the inside of the wheel is oily.

your master cylinder is going bad or a sensor on the brakes if they are well worn, if it is a newer vehicle it could be a few different sensors to cause this problem, ( meaning the computer)

brakes may need immediate service, my toyaota did that after I needed brakes for so long. Or it may mean you have a tail light going bad or out.
