Change an air conditioning compressor, 98 CR-V?

I have a 98 CR-V with a bad air conditioning compressor. Can it be replaced by a do-it-yourselfer with a friend who is very handy with cars? Do I need any special tools or equpment? Is it better to buy the thing and have a shop install it? Thanks.

If you dont have knowledge of a/c systems, a vacuum pump and a set of gauges, you should take it to a shop>

Take it to someone who does it for a living, and has the tools.
