It's pretty Busch League.
I've played some catcher, not alot but I have had this happen. You don't have to stand there and let the guy plow into you, if you are confident in your abilities, get out of the way and just tag him on the way in. Of course, this only works when you actually have a little bit of time to do so.

spalfy, I'm confused, how else do you run a catcher over? Lead with your face?
Since when can't you lead with your shoulder to check in hockey? You most certainly can in the NHL - maybe you mean amateur? And, actually, catcher's wear just as much padding as hockey players. Chest guard, and metal shin guards and face mask.
I couldn't disagree more with you on this. The catcher can avoid the contact, if he so chooses, by applying a sweep tag, but that is far less effective than blocking the plate.
There is nothing dirty about the play that happened in yesterday's game.
Also, there have been plenty of injuries, many serious in this scenario. Ray Fosses in the all-star game, Chad Krueter, Ivan Rodriquez, etc...

It has been, and will be a part of the game forever. What next? no taking out the 2nd baseman or shortstop to prevent a double play. Catchers know what they are getting into at an early age. If Bo Jackson was on second and a guy hit a single what do you think the catcher might be thinking? If a runner didn't take out a catcher that was blocking the plate - he would be labled a pu--y

A collission at the plate is part of the game, and doesn't happen that often. A saw that play yesterday and thought that Heinske shouldn't have led with his shoulder but this is a split second decision. One of my first plays as a catcher years ago in little league was a collission at the plate. The biggest kid in the league tried to run me over. OK, I was the second biggest kid in the league so I survived and the guy was out. I still remember it, in a positive way.
Now in little league they have the "must slide: avoid contact rule", so maybe someday it will work it's way up through the leagues to the MLB but not for decades.

Although I agree it's a dangerous play, I do not agree that it should be disallowed. I have played catcher for a lot of years and know it's part of the position. Why? Because if I choose to block the plate then it's fair game. I would rather run some catcher over than slide straight into his shin pads running full speed and break my ankle as he blocks the plate. If that was Thurmon Munson playing back there, then Hinske would have lost that battle.

well in order for this to happen then the catcher wont be able to block the plate which means well it will be harder for them to get someone coming home out unless its a force play!! I see what you mean about the shoulder lean but there isnt that many injuries for them to make a rule about leaning your shoulder down to take out the catcher! Good for posada to hold on to that ball!

I don't wanna say that it shouldn't be allowed, but you do make a point.
Players do get injured running into catchers, don't forget that Justin Morneau had a bruised lung (scary) because he ran into a catcher.
There would have to be alot more injuries if the MLB is going to make it against the rules to run against the catcher.
But like every sport, every player knows the risk, and are willing to except it.

because of the fact the marketplace drives the fee, no longer the provision. investors have been heavily making an investment in commodities jointly with oil and different foodstuff product like corn, wheat, rice, soybean etc. This finally drives up costs like a inventory fee could pass up while all people is procuring. the only threat of seeing decrease costs is while oil turns right into a lesser option to different power recommendations like image voltaic or wind, that's an prolonged time removed from being probable.

Ray Fosse got creamed by some yahoo Reds player 37 years ago, in an exhibition game, and some people still think that was an exciting moment. Others recognize it as the brutal thuggery it was then and would still be today.

More MLB catchers are injured in car accidents than in collisions at home plate.
We're talking about grown men earning millions to play a kids' game. Let 'em crash...
