Recently I've noticed that when I start up the car, it idles up and then really low like it's going to shut off. Also, when I drive it hesitates when accelerating, sometimes to the point where if I put the pedal all the way down, it won't accelerate or if so it bucks then accelerates. It seems like over the last several months, the gas mileage has been getting worse. About a month ago I put some gas treatment in it but I can't see where that's helped. Could it be the fuel injectors, spark plugs/wires, fuel pump, sensors, or what??? I'm afraid to drive it cause it may not start again or shut off on me.

It could be a fuel pressure problem, but it could also be a restricted exhaust. A good mechanic can check that possibility quickly with just a vacuum gauge>

Definitely sounds like dirty injectors are a possibility. "Clogged" is maybe too strong of a word in most cases, but dirt does build up and it doesn t take a full clog to screw up engine performance. All it takes is for the dirt to slightly alter the spray pattern, pressure or angle of the fuel that comes out of the injector nozzles and your car can behave totally differently. Some injector cleaner liquids can prevent such issues while some might be able to break up the dirt. But if the problem has been left untended for a while, you might need to clean them properly using pressurized cleaners or taking your car to a shop.

change the air filter and fuel filter , clean the fuel injectors and throttle body and replace the spark plugs . If those dont work then check fuel pump or maybe an idle adjustment sensor

Craw under the car and replace the fuel filter first it should be under a red plastic cover on the frame just ahead of the rear tire. And remember your car is 18 years old anything could be wrong with it. More info like my car has the 5.0 liter engine and has XXX,XXX miles on it. 4.6 liter does not have a distributor the 5.0 does. 5.0 liter might need Cap rotor plugs and wires. 4.6 liter has two coil packs might only need wires and plugs.

When did you last change your fuel filter? That's what it sounds like, that or your fuel pump isn't putting out the right pressure. It's a fairly easy thing for your mechanic to check.

Check the sparkplugs, wires, and fuel pump!! any or all of them could be causing the problem.

What is the maintenance history? Have you put gas and oil only? If that is the case, seems that need some good maintenance.
